Young athletes invited to make a splash at Down Triathlon Club’s Beyond the Wall with new Youth Aquathlon.
Now in its 5th year and firmly established on the Triathlon Ireland Events Calendar, Down Triathlon Club’s Beyond The Wall Triathlon National Series Race is looking to welcome up to 400 adult competitors on Saturday 13th June. In addition, this year for the first time, Beyond the Wall will introduce junior athletes to multisport with its first Youth Aquathlon, as part of the Triathlon Ireland Youth Series – supported by AIG Ireland.
Young people from ages 11-17 will have the opportunity to dive into multisport competition with the introduction of a brand-new Youth Aquathlon (swim – run).
Designed to inspire the next generation of athletes the Beyond the Wall Aquathlon event combines swimming in the sheltered bay of Strangford Lough, and running in the National Trust’s Castle Ward Estate grounds.
Adding a unique community element young participants have also been given the opportunity to help design the finisher medal, ensuring that this year’s event leaves a lasting legacy.
Announcing the event’s 2026 title sponsor, Hillyard House, Mark and Martin O’Higgins of Hillyard House commented:
“We are absolutely delighted to support Down Triathlon Club as Title Sponsor of the Beyond The Wall events. These races showcase everything that is great about this area – community spirit, the outdoors, and people coming together to challenge themselves.”
Brian Corry, Down Triathlon Club’s Beyond The Wall Race Director said:
This collaboration allows us to continue growing the event while delivering a top-class experience for athletes, volunteers and spectators”
Down Triathlon Club also introduced a new concept for 2026 – a Medal Design competition for local young people to participate in.
The winning designs, by two young triathletes – Sophia and Yvaine – feature on the official medals. The winners received vouchers and personalised mugs featuring their designs in recognition of their creativity and contribution.
As well as the Youth race, the event also provides a fantastic opportunity to watch some of the country’s top triathletes in action as they compete in the adult race, which forms part of the Triathlon National Series calendar.
Whether competing, supporting family members or simply enjoying a day outdoors, Beyond the Wall promises a memorable experience for participants, spectators and volunteers.
Limited places for both events are available on the Triathlon Ireland website. Entries close Friday 5th June 2026 at 11.59pm.
