Tri-Team Ireland heads to Spain this July as more than 60 Age Group athletes prepare to compete at the 2026 Europe Triathlon Multisport Championships in Banyoles.
Taking place from 11th–19th July, the championships will bring together Europe’s best Age Group athletes across six championship events: Sprint Duathlon, Standard Duathlon, Cross Triathlon, Cross Duathlon, Aquathlon, Middle Distance Triathlon and Aquabike. The event will once again showcase the strength and diversity of Age Group racing, with Irish athletes competing across a wide range of age groups and disciplines.
Hosted around the iconic Lake Banyoles, often regarded as the home of triathlon in Spain, athletes can expect fast racing in one of Europe’s most recognisable triathlon venues. The championship features a condensed multisport programme, creating an exciting festival atmosphere throughout the week.
Alongside Ireland’s Age Group team, three of Triathlon Ireland’s High Performance Development athletes will also compete in Banyoles.
Jude Williams will line up in the Junior Men’s Aquathlon Championships, Chloe Young in the Junior Women’s Aquathlon Championships while Ross Killalea will represent Ireland in the Under-23 Aquathlon Championships.
Their participation provides another valuable opportunity to gain international championship experience as they continue their progression along the High Performance Pathway.
Ireland will be represented by a strong squad across every championship event. The largest Irish contingent will compete in the Aquathlon Championships, while significant teams will also line up for the Middle Distance Triathlon, Sprint and Standard Duathlon, Cross disciplines and Aquabike. The team includes experienced international competitors alongside athletes making their European Championship debut, highlighting the continued growth of the Triathlon Ireland Age Group programme.
Several athletes will take on multiple championship races during the week, demonstrating the unique nature of the Multisport Championships. Athletes including Naoise O’Donnell, Owen Barron, Paul Flynn, Trevor Woods, Michael Conway, Fiona Riordan, Cillian Cloney and Noel O’Regan are among those competing in more than one event, adding extra Irish interest across the championship schedule.
Following another successful year for Tri-Team Ireland on the international stage, the team will be aiming to continue its strong record of European Championship performances. Irish Age Group athletes have consistently delivered podium finishes and personal best performances at recent international championships, and Banyoles provides another opportunity to compete against the very best in Europe.
Speaking ahead of the championships, Triathlon Ireland Age Group Manager Roisin MacCarthy said:
Everyone at Triathlon Ireland wishes Team Ireland the very best of luck in Banyoles. We look forward to following the team’s performances throughout the week and celebrating their achievements on the European stage.
