Latest update to Triathlon Ireland Eligibility Criteria for Triathlon Ireland National Championship events.
Triathlon Ireland National Championship events include Sprint (including draft-legal), Standard, Middle and Long Distance Triathlon, as well as all designated Multisport National Championship events.
The overall race winner may differ from the National Champion.
Where an ineligible athlete finishes ahead of eligible athletes, the National Champion title, medals and rankings are awarded to the highest-placed eligible athlete in accordance with this policy.
To be eligible for National Championship titles and medals, athletes must meet all of the following:
● Hold a current annual Full/Junior/Under 23/Youth Triathlon Ireland membership at the
time of entry and race day.
Athletes must meet at least one of the following criteria:
● Be an Irish citizen (including those holding an Irish passport)
● Be born on the island of Ireland
● Be eligible to represent Ireland under World Triathlon rules
● Have a minimum of 24 months continuous primary residence on the island of Ireland
immediately prior to the National Championships entry closing date.
Triathlon Ireland retains discretion to refuse eligibility where residence is deemed temporary,
strategic, or not aligned with the intent of National Championship competition.
Eligibility is determined based on membership status, entry information, and connection criteria,
and may be verified by Triathlon Ireland where required.
Athletes must:
● Be in good standing with Triathlon Ireland, World Triathlon, and anti-doping bodies.
● Provide proof of eligibility if requested.
Verification will normally occur only where required (e.g., technical delegate request, formal
protest, or random audit).
This is a Triathlon Ireland policy and will be reviewed periodically to ensure clarity, fairness, and alignment with organisational governance and international standards.
