Camida Clonmel Triathlon: Gallery & Results
On Sunday, the 12th of May, over 200 athletes took part in the Camida Clonmel Triathlon, kicking off the start of the Triathlon National Series (TNS)! The event hosted both a Youth Series (YS) and TNS Age Group race, seeing athletes of all ages battle the Clonmel course.
Youth Series (YS) 12-13 & 14-15
Swim
The first wave, the 12-13 age group were the first to enter the water at Clonmel Rowing Club at 9.00am, followed by the 14-15 age group at 9.05am. The 12-13 age group began with a deep water start between two kayakers and they swam 400m downstream to the swim exit. The 14-15 age group took off from the concrete slipway and swam a 500m course downstream.
Run
Moving through transition the 12-13 age group then completed at 2km along the river, concluding at the finish line in the New Quay Car park. The 14-15 age group followed a similar course but completed an extended run of 3 km.
Finish Line
In the YS 12-13 Womens, Sophie Rankin from Down Triathlon Club was first over the line with a time of 00:16:35, and in the YS 12-13 Mens, Eoghan Looney took first place with a time of 00:15:08.
In the YS 14-15 Womens, Wicklow Triathlon Club’s Lara Buck took first place with a time of 00:20:53, there were no competitors in the YS 14-15 Mens.
Triathlon National Series (TNS) & Youth Series 16-17
Swim
The Triathlon National Series and the 16-17 years old Youth Series both followed the same course of 750m swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run. The YS 16-17 wave took off first from the slipway at Clonmel Rowing Club, followed soon after by the TNS.
In the YS 16-17 Womens, Nessa Mangan from Predator Triathlon Club completed the fastest swim time of 00:09:04, and in the YS 16-17 Mens Pearse Gallagher took the lead with a time of 00:07:57.
In the TNS Womens Sinead Barnett from Cork Triathlon Club took the lead completing the swim in 00:08:24. Also from Cork Triathlon Club, Anthony Creed took the lead in the TNS Mens with a time of 00:08:07.
Bike & Run
The 20 km bike course was primarily fast and flat, bringing the athletes out to the turnaround point at Knocknagree and back again. Athletes continued to push themselves, tearing back to T2 and moving into the run.
The 5km run course was also an out and back, but finished 700m short of transition in the New Quay Car park. The course brought the athletes out along the Blueway, following the river on their run.
In the YS 16-17 Womens Sinead Greene, from Predator Triathlon Club completed the fastest run 00:22:05, but Tried and Tested’s Aoibheann Ryan took the overall first place with a time of 01:09:44. In the YS 16-17 Mens, Pearse Gallagher maintained his lead through the entire course and took first place, with an overall time of 00:56:15.
In the TNS Womens, Faye Mansfield from Piranha Triathlon Club completed the fastest run and took first place, with an overall time of 01:08:05. Conor Mullany was first home in the TNS Mens, with a race time of 00:58:35.
