Aisling Wyer and Denis Hegarty 2026 Triathlon National Series Winners
After five months and 18 rounds of racing across Ireland, the 2026 Triathlon National Series has come to a close, with Aisling Wyer and Denis Hegarty crowned the Female and Open overall winners.

From May to September, athletes raced across Sprint, Standard and Middle Distance events in all four provinces, with the series once again showcasing the depth, competitiveness and variety of triathlon racing across Ireland. The 2026 calendar featured 18 events, from Clonmel and Athy to Westport, Derry and the final round at Pulse Port Beach in Co. Louth.
Athletes’ series rankings were determined by their best four eligible results, including at least one Sprint and one Standard Distance race. Aisling Wyer Wins the female title
Aisling Wyer has been crowned the 2026 Triathlon National Series Female winner, following a consistently strong season across Sprint, Standard and Middle Distance racing.
Wyer finished the series with 881.18 points, with four qualifying results making up her final score. Her best result came at the Tri Limits Irish National Middle Distance Triathlon Championships at Tri Tyrone, where she recorded 887.81 points
She followed that performance with three more strong National Series results: winning Two Provinces, Loughrea and Westport.
That consistency proved decisive, with Wyer finishing ahead of Sarah Diamond and Deirdre Casey to claim the overall title. Wyer who finished third in the 2025 Triathlon National Series moves to the top of the podium for 2026.
Sarah Diamond Takes Second
Sarah Diamond finished second overall with 865.39 points, putting together an impressive campaign across Sprint, Standard and Middle Distance racing, and picking up two national championship titles along the way.
Her standout performance came at the Tri Limits Irish National Middle Distance Triathlon Championships, where she won the Female race and recorded her highest series score of 899.54 points.
Diamond also claimed victories at Harbourman, TriAthy Olympic and Dublin City Triathlon, while finishing second at Two Provinces.
Dierdre Casey Completes the Podium
Deirdre Casey secured third place overall with 862.03 points. Casey opened her series at Clonmel with victory before adding another win at Fastnet and a further victory at Jailbreak. She also finished third at Two Provinces.
Her four qualifying scores gave her an overall total of 862.03 points and secured third place in the 2026 Female Triathlon National Series.
Denis Hegarty Takes the 2026 Open Title
Denis Hegarty is the 2026 Triathlon National Series Open winner, finishing the season with an impressive 903.13 points.
Hegarty, a member of Tralee Tri Club produced one of the most consistent campaigns in the series, featuring on the podium in each of his four qualifying races.
His highest score came at the Fastnet Sprint Triathlon, where his second-place finish produced 917.31 points. He followed that with strong performances at Jailbreak and Hell of the West before taking victory at Two Provinces.
Hegarty’s consistency across both Sprint and Standard Distance racing ultimately saw him finish clear at the top of the overall standings and claim his first Triathlon National Series title.
Donal Mongey Retains Second title
Donal Mongey finished runner-up for the second consecutive year, matching his 2025 Triathlon National Series silver medal.
Mongey finished the 2026 series on 884.62 points, with victories at Hell of the West and Westport among his standout performances.
He also finished second at the Tri Limits Irish National Middle Distance Triathlon Championships and Tribesman, giving him four strong qualifying scores.
Sean McMahon Completes the Open Podium
Sean McMahon secured third place overall with 875.53 points, adding another strong result to an impressive season.
McMahon opened his Triathlon National Series campaign with win at Clonmel season opener before going on to finish third at Harbourman and third at Dublin City Triathlon.
The National Triathlon Centre (UL) athlete also represented Ireland internationally during the season, racing at the Africa Triathlon Cups in Yasmine Hammamet and Tipaza and the Europe Triathlon Cup City of Derry.
His four qualifying Triathlon National Series scores earned him third overall in the 2026 standings.
18 rounds of racing
The 2026 Triathlon National Series once again brought racing to all four provinces, with athletes competing across a mix of Sprint, Standard and Middle Distance events.
The series began at Camida Clonmel Triathlon on 10th May and travelled through Athy, Cork, Down, Galway, Limerick, Longford, Tyrone, Westport, Dublin, the Mournes and Derry before concluding at Pulse Port Beach Triathlon on 26 September.
The final round at Pulse’s Port Beach Triathlon featured a fast Sprint Distance course consisting of a 750m sea swim, 20km bike and 5km run, bringing the 2026 series to a close.
Across the 18 rounds, athletes raced against some of Ireland’s most scenic backdrops, with opportunities for both experienced competitors and athletes looking to challenge themselves in the Triathlon National Series.


















Qualification for the Triathlon National Series
To qualify for the overall series rankings, triathletes must complete four eligible races, including at least one Sprint Distance and one Standard Distance event. Until those requirements are met, athletes appear in the standings as NYQ – Not Yet Qualified.
Athletes must also hold full Triathlon Ireland membership to earn National Series points. One Day Membership athletes and relay teams are not eligible for series rankings. Sprint competitors must be at least 16 years old by 31st December of the relevant year, while Standard Distance competitors must be at least 18. Rankings are separated by Female / Open and include both overall and age-group standings.
Age-Group Winners
The competition extended throughout the field, with athletes battling for age-group honours across the 18 rounds.

The series continues to provide a competitive pathway for athletes across Ireland, with age-group rankings rewarding consistency and performance across the season.

The achievements of the 2026 Triathlon National Series winners will be celebrated at the Triathlon Ireland Awards on Saturday 7th November at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dún Laoghaire, Dublin.
