Sport Ireland’s HER Outdoors Week

Sport Ireland’s HER Outdoors Week took place from 14th-20th August. This week aims to celebrate and encourage more females to get out and enjoy the benefits of being outdoors while bringing visibility to the opportunities for women to get involved in outdoor physical activity.

Triathlon Ireland’s Me and My Girls campaign encourages women to get outdoors and bring their girls along too. Clubs applied for Triathlon Ireland grants to support these sessions.

Over 20 clubs were awarded funding to run more than 25 free events throughout the country, including sunrise swims, social cycles, walk and talks and yoga and dips.

These events gave women the opportunity to try aspects of triathlon and to get involved with their local club in a social and relaxed atmosphere. These sessions were also a fantastic opportunity for clubs to reach members of their local community. Many clubs have already seen some participants join their club or sign up to future events.

This year in particular saw several events aimed at teenage girls which were run in partnership with other sports and Local Sports Partnerships. These were a great success and will hopefully encourage more teenagers to get involved in triathlon. We want to encourage clubs to run similar events in the future.
