Sarah Fagan RIP and Carlingford Triathlon cancelled.
It is with deep sympathy that we share the devastating news of the passing of Sarah Fagan of Setanta Triathlon Club.

Sarah was competing in the Alp D’Huez triathlon when she experienced difficulties in the swim. She was promptly airlifted to hospital but despite all efforts, she regrettably did not recover and passed away on Saturday, July 29th, in Grenoble, France.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we extend our condolences to all of Sarah’s family, friends and Setanta clubmates during this impossibly difficult time”. Triathlon Ireland CEO, Darren Coombes.
An infectious smile with boundless enthusiasm.
We are sharing the following message to the wider triathlon community on behalf of Setanta Triathlon Club.
Sarah’s presence in the Setanta Triathlon Club was nothing short of remarkable. Her unwavering commitment to the club, her eagerness to lend a helping hand, and her active participation in both club activities and competitive events made her an integral part of our community. Her infectious smile, boundless enthusiasm, and willingness to support others set her apart as an extraordinary person among her peers.
The news of Sarah’s passing has utterly shocked and devastated the club. In consultation with Triathlon Ireland, Setanta has decided to cancel the Carlingford National Series triathlon event, which was due to take place on the 13th of August.
“We did not take this decision lightly but feel it is the right thing to do. I’m sure Sarah would have been the first through the gate to help out next Sunday. We hope you all understand that sometimes other things are more important and we want to thank Triathlon Ireland for their help and support in reaching this decision’’ Fra Murphy, Club Chair.
To all the participants who registered for the Carlingford triathlon, we extend our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused. Refunds will be issued to all entrants through Triathlon Ireland, and we appreciate your understanding during this challenging time.
“Triathlon Ireland’s collective thoughts and prayers are now with Sarah’s family and friends during this exceptionally difficult time”. Alan Ryan, Triathlon Ireland President.
May Sarah rest in peace.
