Bronze for Donnacha McCarthy & Sean Husband

Donnacha McCarthy and Sean Husband finished third in a strong field at the World Triathlon Para Cup Long Beach.

Speaking after the race, the pair were delighted with third, and some all important Paris 2024 Paralympic qualification points. Donnacha said;

“Really pleased with that result today. especially after last week’s race which didn’t really go to plan and we were quite disappointed with.”

“Good qualification points for Paris as well, the Paralympics qualification window’s open since the first of July. So getting a good result here today sets us up nicely for the next couple of races over the next month now, the Paris test event and World Championships in September.”

Oliver Gunning and guide Tom Flaherty finished inside the top ten for ninth at Long Beach in a time of 1:08:21.

Hamburg world Champs

Ireland were represented at last weekend’s U23 and Junior World Mixed Team Relay Champs by triathletes Ralf Bodamer, Erin McConnell, Jonathan Oakey and Saoirse O’Brien.

The team produced a battling performance, finishing 16th amongst the best in the world.

Junior athlete Mathys Bocquet took the start line in the Junior Men’s World Championships. Mathys’ progress in the race was unfortunately stalled due to a crash out on the bike course. Mathys displayed both bravery and resilience, continuing his race and crossing the line in 66th. Full results from triathon.org.

MacCombe & Sands in Swansea

Following their silver in Montreal, Chloe MacCombe and Catherine Sands were back in action this weekend at the World Triathlon Para Series Swansea.

With the race format changed to an aquathlon because of weather conditions, the pair crossed the line for sixth place, putting in the fastest run of the day and running 19:54 for 5k.
