WattFest Round 5 Results

The Tempus Fugit Flats
Last night’s effort was very different to that of previous few weeks, flat, flat, flat! The 20km all out TT course has just 18m elevation throughout, but that doesn’t make it easy!
With no draft available, Tempus Fugit was more about power and endurance and less tactics and sprinting. As a result we saw some riders come to the top for the first time this season last night – kudos to our race winners Enda Bagnall, Nicola Kehoe, Gary Condell, Chloe Pollard, Adam Lovett, Louise Mulvaney, Sean Curran and Kara Appelbe.

CAT A RESULTS
MEN’S CAT A
What does it take to separate Enda Bagnall and Jack Kennedy? Even over 20km of individual time trialling last night, the duo matched each other to within a single second – for the stats lovers that’s a 0.065% difference. But a difference none the less it was, and one which allowed Bagnall (Edenderry TC) to take 56 points against Kennedy’s 51. The result is that the top two stay the same but the gap has narrowed to a mere six points.
Next quickest on Tempus Fugit last night was Stephen Mulberrry (North West TC) who stays in third on 239 points from his five completed events. His time was actually matched down to the millisecond by fifth paced Lochlann Connolly (222 points); and with 4th placed Mark Farquhar (TriLimits) also showing strongly last night, the podium in the A league is still anyone’s to claim.
WOMEN’S CAT A
Helen Perry sat out last night’s race giving Waterford’s Nicola Kehoe the chance to use the race she had in hand, and go five points into the lead of the A League. Sitting in third on 214 points, TriLimit’s Susan O’Neill has slightly closed the gap to the top two after a second place finish last night.
While the A League will be decided between these three riders, it is far from over! Close standings and four rounds remaining means that anything can happen. Each week will play to different strengths meaning none of the trio can afford to give an inch in the remaining rounds.
WOMEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION
With just two clubs competing in this league, TriLimits are in the lead on 448 points thanks to the joint efforts of Helen Perry and Susan O’Neill. As the sole Waterford TC contender, Nicola Kehoe has earned the club 239 points.
MEN’S CAT A CLUB COMPETITION
With just one rider lining our for each of the top three teams in the A League last night, the order remains unchanged. Edenderry lead on 325 points, Belpark are second on 276 and TriLimits are on 259.
CAT B RESULTS
MEN’S CAT B
Chris Gallagher moves to the top of Men’s Cat B with three points to spare over last week’s leader – now second placed – Quinton Burke (Tri an Mhí).
Owen Barron remains in third place overall and stays well within grasp of the top spot, trailing by just 11 points.
WOMEN’S CAT B
It’s getting close at the top of the B League! Beáta Kis still holds the lead by just three points. Olympian TC member Kerry McGrillen’s consistency is paying off and she now moves from third into second on 209 points. Former leader Elaine Lally is in third on 159 points but has a race in hand on those ahead of her – this could prove important in the weeks to come!
A new contender for the B League is Chloe Pollard – she announced her arrival on the points board with a win last at last night’s TT.
WOMEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION
Things are close in the individual competition, meaning it’s very close in the club competition! Elaine Lally and Carmel Hayes are ensuring that Lanesboro still lead the team competition on 255 points. 3D Triathlon stay in second thanks on 212 with Beata Kis the sole representative.
Kerry McGrillen’s Olympian TC stay in third but are applying pressure to 3D TC as the gap now stands at just 3 points.
MEN’S CAT B CLUB COMPETITION
Tri an Mhí pull ever so slightly ahead of second placed TriLimits following last night’s race – the 31 point gap is tiny in team scoring terms, as is the 26 point range back to third placed Omagh who lined out three riders last night. Club racing is often a numbers game so if they keep this up we could see a change at the top of the B cat before long.
CAT C RESULTS
MEN’S CAT C
Gearoid Taylor (Boru TC) extends his lead over Brian Baker after bettering him by six seconds on the Tempus Fugit course. There’s still very little between the pair – only 11 points in fact – a slight increase on last week but still nothing to bring to the bank.
Adam Lovett (Mako TC) moves in to third place after posting up the quickest time of the C League (28mins 44secs) to take 61 points. Lovett is carrying one poor score from his five completed rounds so could be the man to watch if he gets seven under his belt and can ditch his weakest round.
WOMEN’S CAT C
In the C League Louise Mulvaney is on a roll, having extended her lead at the top again to a massive 300 points. This doesn’t mean Mulvaney is home and dry however, as many of those behind her have a race in hand. Roberta Hanly moves into second in the league as previous second placed rider Lucy McDermott has been upgraded.
We predicted it might happen, and now it has – Cathy Cunningham is on the podium! With a race in hand on those ahead of her, Cunningham has been consistent week in and week out. Cathy finished third last night and now sits third in the league.
Shout out to last night’s second placed rider Sinead McHale from Lansesboro on her best result to date!
WOMEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION
There’s strength in numbers, and Omagh TC continue to prove this with their massive 671 points haul to remain the Cat C Club leaders. Roberta Hanly and Sinead McHale are working hard for Lanesboro to ensure they remain in second on 392.
Olympian TC are still in third with 218 points, a few extra riders to support Deborah McLaughlin could make all the difference here.
MEN’S CAT C CLUB COMPETITION
There appears to be nothing standing in the way of the Lanesboro peloton and victory – even at the half way mark of the competition. They’ve hauled in almost twice the points of second placed Belpark – quite an achievement.
It’s from places two to five that the real competition is being fought in the men’s Cat C Club competition. Belpark lead the pack on 441 points, a tiny margin of six ahead of Cork TC (435 points). TriLimits and Team Boro lie in 4th and 5th, on 366 and 362.
CAT D RESULTS
MEN’S CAT D
The top three remain unchanged in Men’s Cat D with Niall Byrne (Pulse TC) extending his lead to 22 points over Michael Feeney (Blackwater TC). Paul Henry moves to within eight points of second place thanks to a strong race last night.
However the man to watch is still back in 5th place. With a race in hand and a second place finish last night to add to his victory the week before, Stephen Smyth (3D TC) is well positioned to leap to within touching distance of Byrne once het gets six races completed. We’re in for an exciting second half of this league.
WOMEN’S CAT D
The competitive Cat D has seen some changes again at the top of the leaderboard, but the margins are certainly tight as we enter the second half of WattFest. Finishing second last night means league leader Louise McGirl holds her spot at the top with 263 points.
Omagh TC’s Elaine Mallaghan produced her best result yet in Tempus Fugit, finishing third to secure her second placed league slot on 242 points. Just 11 points separates third to sixth in this closely fought league. Cork Tri’s Kara Appelbe moves into third but she will need some strong form in the coming weeks to hold off Gemma Skeath, Mary Coyne and Nicola Henry.
It’s worth noting that both Appelbe and Skeath have completed four of five rounds, meaning they have a one race advantage on the rest of the top six riders.
WOMEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION
TriLimits are sitting comfortably at the top of the league on 756 points thanks to 16 results posted thus far. On 469 pints, Omagh TC are still in second. Kara Appelbe’s results see Cork Tri Club move into third.
MEN’S CAT D CLUB COMPETITION
Even at this relatively early stage, TriLimits look to have the Men’s Cat D Club Competition in their own hands if they continue their current trajectory of turning out the riders.
Pulse and Blackwater are locked in a battle of just once rider each – the gap is only 22 points – a single recruit to either team would make all the difference.
ISSUES OR MISSING RESULTS
Unlike previous Triathlon Ireland leagues, WattFest is 100pc contained on the Zwift and ZwiftPower platforms which means the league table calculations are automatically derived from the race results.
If you don’t see yourself on the league table, your first port of call should be to check the Zwift Power FAQs and then the ZwiftPower support desk (at the bottom of the FAQ page).
Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the ability to reverse or edit race results but if you have a question you can’t find the answer to by all means email us and we’ll do our best to help.
If you were ‘filtered’ from any of the races it will have been for a technical reason which again, Triathlon Ireland doesn’t have the power to override. We know getting DQ’d can be frustrating and sometimes not even within the control of the rider.
Here’s a run down of the main reasons a rider will find themselves ‘filtered’ out of the results.
