Alan Ryan Elected President

Alan Ryan has been elected the Triathlon Ireland President following the 2021 AGM this afternoon (Saturday April 24th).

Mr Ryan received 35 votes, with current Vice President Bernard Hanratty receiving 22 votes. There were no abstentions.

Two Ordinary Director positions were also up for election and were filled by Mark Farquhar and Maxine Strain.

Mark Farquhar received 32 of the 91 clubs that cast their ballot – the highest number of votes of the three candidates and was therefore deemed elected.

Maxine Strain on 28 votes was the only candidate eligible for the second Ordinary Director position and so was deemed elected ahead of the third candidate Ian Haseldine who received 31 votes.

Virtual AGM

For the second year running, the Annual General Meeting was held virtually over the Zoom platform and was live-streamed on YouTube.

The elections took place between 11am and 1pm via a secure third party platform and were overseen by an independent scrutinee from Lehman solicitors.

The entire AGM can be watched back on the Triathlon Ireland YouTube page.

The meeting was chaired by outgoing President who is term limited after serving two four year periods as President.

He said it had been a great honour to lead Triathlon Ireland and said praised the staff, board members and ordinary members.

“As a community, we’ve built this sport in to something that’s unrecognisable,” Mr Walsh added.

He also thanked his ‘long suffering wife,’ who he said had “a lot of evenings and weekends spoilt by TI business.”
