Zwift Autumn League – Final Results

Zwift Autumn League Richmond

After nine weeks of racing across five different routes, the Triathlon Ireland Autumn Zwift League drew to a close last night with a final high heart rate hit out on the virtual streets of Richmond.

Last night’s race saw some riders snatch podium positions and more than one club make a late dash up the league tables – to see the results from the actual race, head to the Zwift Companion App or the race’s Zwift Power page.

Fun is the Winner

Before we get on to the final league tables, it’s worth repeating that results on Zwift are just that – virtual cycling results. The focus for the Triathlon Ireland Zwift league is keeping our community connected and above all, having fun.

Almost 750 riders took part in the league and while the element of competition definitely makes things more interesting, the vast majority taking part do so for fun and not for results.

Results

The results below are the final Triathlon Ireland rankings and are slightly different to the ZwiftPower individual and club leaderboards (aka Team Standings). This us because we have excluded any riders that aren’t attached to a triathlon club.

If you don’t see yourself on the league tables below and are a Triathlon Ireland member, just send us an email and we will look in to it.

**All results will be considered final at noon on Friday 18th December**

Analysis

Heading in to the final race of the league, there was really only one thing certain – Enda Bagnall had 1st place well under control.

With an incredible five victories this autumn, Bagnall was just five points off scoring a perfect 366 score. In short, he was all but unbeatable throughout the league.

Behind him High Performance athlete James Edgar left it late but made a decisive move last night to get his sixth race completed and with it, leapfrog over Emmet Dunleavy and Michael Sinton to move in to second place on 277 points. Dunleavy finishes in third just 5 points further adrift.

Another athlete making a late move was Heather Foley, who also completed her sixth race last night and with it moved to the top of the women’s A league on 193 points. This put Emma Hingston in to second with Roberta Hanly and Ruth McComb remaining tied for 3rd.

The A club rankings remain unchanged in the final week with Belpark winning gold, Lisburn claiming silver and Edenderry claiming bronze.

Analysis

The final B League men’s table, while remarkably close, is unchanged from last week with Kevin Derrig winning the league ahead of Oliver Harkin in second and Simon Befort in third.

In the women’s B league, things also have a settled appearance with Beáta Kis consolidating her lead last night to claim the win over Gail Martin in 2nd and Amy O’Keeffe in third.

The Club B League was where all the action took place. After dropping to second last week, 3D roared back during last night’s race to reclaim the top place on the league table over Belpark in second. Newry hold on to third place overall.

Analysis

The C league battle has been one of the most fascinating rivalries of the autumn league with a lot of tight competition and tons of movement each week.

Despite looking very secure in the first few rounds, Niall McMonagle missed a few races mid league and really only solidified his lead in Round 8. Last night he made sure of his standing, picking up his sixth scoring race to finish 60 points clear of second placed Adrian Crowe.

Crowe and third place finisher Conor McGuinness had a battle royale last night and could very easily be in each other’s positions this morning. McGuinness was the best placed rider of all the top three – finishing 5th overall. That put him three places in front of Crowe in the race. The points result saw Crowe’s advantage cut to just three points but thanks to some extremely consistent riding (he never varied more than seven points in his results) the Fingal TC athlete held on to second place.

In the women’s C League, both Diane Cordner and Sinead O’Connor picked up a substantial number of points last night to draw closer Medbh Peavoy. Peavoy had some superb early league results to thank for her final position and her overall points haul of 146 was just enough to allow her to sit out last night and remain top of the table. Cordner finishes 13 points back in second with O’Connor particularly strong last night to close out the league on 109 points in third.

Belpark, Lisburn and Cork triathlon clubs retained their 1st-2nd-3rd rankings after last night.

Analysis

The D League retained a settled appearance following Round 9 with both James Gallagher and Priscilla Crombie holding on to their first place standings from Round 8. A similar situation pertains on the second step of the podium, occupied by Alan Mitchell and Kim Campbell. Catherine Hanley continues this trend in the women’s league as she picked up eight points to cement her third place finish.

The men’s bronze medal position was the focus of the action with three riders battling it out for the final podium spot.

Barry Hall was the man to beat and might well rue not racing last night as his inability to improve on his 237 points allowed Dave Lynam and Niall Byrne to close the gap.

Lynam beat Byrne to the line last night picking up 43 points – almost enough to move him in to third place were it not for the fact that Byrne was just two places back. The 431 points Byrne secured means he finishes on a total of 240 – three points ahead of Barry Hall and four points ahead of Dave Lynam.

In the Club D League,  the main mover was Lisburn, who jumped from third to second overnight claiming the silver medal behind winners Lanesboro and displacing Edenderry who finish in third position.
