Zwift Autumn League – Round 7 Results

Zwift Autumn League Rnd 7

The race-only course of Seaside Sprint with its deceptive ramps and varied scenery hosted Round 7 of the Triathlon Ireland Zwift Autumn League. Last night was the second time we raced the course in this league so everybody will have known what to expect – whether this made it easier or harder is up for debate!

With seven events completed, the league tables are taking a more settled appearance – remember each rider and team will be scored off their six best results so nothing is decided just yet.

Results

The full results from Race 7 are on the event’s ZwiftPower page.

ZwiftPower also has the overall detailed individual and club leaderboards for all cats from A to D.

What we run through below are the Triathlon Ireland rankings so it’s members only – if you happen to be a member and your name is missing – just drop us an email and we’ll fix it for you.

Why Am I Not There?

If you are unsure of how ZwiftPower applies its scoring system, scroll down to the bottom of the page, which is also where you’ll need to go if you were one of the 40 riders who were ‘filtered’ from last night’s event. This is a pretty high number of filtered riders – the majority were for HR, the absence of Heart Rate data – this can be fixed people! Connect your HR next week cause we want you in the results sheet!

Analysis

With first and second placed Enda Bagnall and Emmet Dunleavy only improving their overall scores by single digit points last night (due to an already stacked points haul), the main mover in the men’s league is 3rd placed Michael Sinton. Bagnall’s place at the top of the A league looks fairly secure but Sinton and Dunleavy could yet have a battle for 2nd over the last two rounds.

In the women’s table, Heather Foley has shaved four points off Emma Hingston’s lead at the top – just five points separate both women now making this a real nail biter with two rounds left.

Belpark become the first team to breach 1,000 points in the A league table but the top places remain largely unchanged with Grainne Uaile and Lanesboro moving up the table and Pulse joining the A league for the first time.

Analysis

The women’s B league table sees points gains for Beata Kis, Gail Martin and Ava Whelan but the positions remain unchanged.

Simon Belfort retains his top place in league B but it’s all change behind him with Ciaran Reynolds shooting in to second on 272 points and Kevin Derrig right behind him on 265. This one looks like it could go down to the final race!

In the team table, Lisburn and Trilogy are the main movers – the top three teams however remain the same.

Analysis

Another week in the C league and more switching of places! Niall McMonagle still leads on 276 points but his lead is beginning to look under threat with Adrian Crowe moving in to second on 243 and McMonagle’s teammate Conor MacGuinness now in 3rd on 237 – this is definitely a competition that could change before the middle of the month.

The women’s league has a more settled appearance with Medbh Peavoy extending her substantial lead in first over Diane Cordner (2nd) and Martsje Werstra (3rd).

Although they occupy two of top three individual placings, Belpark will be looking nervously behind them after last night as Lisburn closed the gap considerably. Cork Tri have also shot up from 5th to 3rd. There’s very little to separate any of the teams from 4th to 7th – expect a dogfight over the remaining two rounds.

Analysis

Kim Campbell took full advantage of last week’s leader Priscilla Crombie’s absence to claim first place in the women’s table but at a mere 4 points it’s the slenderest of leads. Plus Crombie only has five races to her name so a return next week will almost certainly see her make a large points jump. An excellent 33 points from Rnd 7 sees Catherine Hanley bolster her third place ranking, completing her six races and leaving her on 181 points.

James Gallagher retains his lead in the men’s table but at 20 points, his margin over Alan Mitchell is not to be taken for granted. Third place is too close to call as well with Barry Hall shooting in to third following last night.

Remarkably, only Blackwater TC make any alteration to the top 10 clubs in the D league, jumping from 12th to 7th.

ZwiftPower’s Scoring System

Zwift racing differs from what we’ve all come to expect from in-real-life triathlon racing.

Clubs

While the league is open to everybody, the club rankings in this race report only take Triathlon Ireland clubs in to account. If you are one of the many riders who had their club listed as ‘Triathlon Ireland’ you won’t be included in the club rankings.

However it’s simple to set your up a profile for your local triathlon club on ZwiftPower and use it for your future races.

In fact, this is something we’d urge you to do.

Gender

ZwiftPower applies points to riders according to their position in the race – regardless of gender. This isn’t an ideal points solution and is something we’d like to see changed (so that women have a completely separate points allocation). However, we are working within the confines of ZwiftPower, which while imperfect is an incredibly powerful platform in other respects so bear with us.

Filtered Riders

A relatively large number of riders were ‘filtered’ or excluded from the results sheet for various infringements. The two most common were HR (having no heart rate data) and ZP (not having a verified power meter.

While Zwift racing is primarily about having fun, we have a responsibility to ensure that any race that carries our name is also fair so unfortunately if you were excluded or ‘filtered’ it is for a legitimate reason. Filtering is an automatic, data based decision by ZwiftPower designed to ensure an above board race.
