Autumn League – Round 1 Results
The Triathlon Ireland Zwift Autumn League got underway last night with 184 riders lining up in four pens for the race of truth – a 21km individual time trial on the desert flats of the Tempus Fugit course.
The race was the first of nine rounds in the autumn league – but the only non-drafting event and as such was a test of pure power and fitness for those taking part.
Congratulations to the women’s and men’s winners across all four categories – we saw some close racing and lots of triathlon clubs taking part.
Remember – the league will be judged off the best six results so if you have a friend or club mate who hasn’t signed on yet, there’s still plenty of time for them to get started – we’ve got everything you need to know in our quick guide.
A note on Results
You can see all the results from race 1 on the event’s ZwiftPower page. ZwiftPower also has the overall detailed individual leaderboard.
Before we get on to who did what however, we want to take the time to explain some of the ways the results process in Zwift racing differs from what we’ve all come to expect from in-real-life triathlon racing.
Clubs
While the league is open to everybody, the club rankings in this race report only take Triathlon Ireland clubs in to account. If you are one of the many riders who had their club listed as ‘Triathlon Ireland’ you won’t be included in the club rankings.
However it’s simple to set your up a profile for your local triathlon club on ZwiftPower and use it for your future races.
In fact, this is something we’d urge you to do.
Gender
ZwiftPower applies points to riders according to their position in the race – regardless of gender. This isn’t an ideal points solution and is something we’d like to see changed (so that women have a completely separate points allocation). However, we are working within the confines of ZwiftPower, which while imperfect is an incredibly powerful platform in other respects so bear with us.
Filtered Riders
A relatively large number of riders were ‘filtered’ or excluded from the results sheet for various infringements. The two most common were HR (having no heart rate data) and ZP (not having a verified power meter.
While Zwift racing is primarily about having fun, we have a responsibility to ensure that any race that carries our name is also fair so unfortunately if you were excluded or ‘filtered’ it is for a legitimate reason. Filtering is an automatic, data based decision by ZwiftPower designed to ensure an above board race.

Analysis
Belpark’s strong three man showing from Adriele Prina (48pts), Emmett Dunleavy (43 pts) and Eoghan Fox (39 pts) sees them occupy the leading position on a total of 130 points.
Second placed after last night is Lisburn Triathlon Club who will rue the lack of a third A rider since their pairing of Michael Sinton (49 pts) and high performance athlete James Edgar (47 pts) netted them 96 points.
And in third place for the A Club League was Edenderry – a club of one in this case with Enda Bagnall netting all of the club’s 61 points.

Strength in depth proved a clever strategy for Belpark with their four person team of Ashley Hayes (BTC) (32 pts), Andy Grehan (BTC) (31 pts), Conal Markey BTC (25 pts) and Ava Whelan BTC (18 pts) saw them come out on top of the legitimate clubs with 106 points.
The gap to second was just 33 points however with Andy Kennedy (LTC) (56 pts) and Emma Hingston (IRL Velo Vixens) (17 pts) claiming 73 points for Lisburn Triathlon Club.
Kevin Gileece was a one man club for 3D in the B league, recording all of that club’s 51 points to leave them in third place.

Analysis
There’s plenty of room for clubs to get on the score sheet in the D League with the leading trio of triathlon clubs all netting their points from a single rider. Niall Byrne and his 51 points put Pulse Triathlon Club in first place, ahead of Edenderry TC who are on 46 points thanks to Alan Mitchell and Olympian TC and their 41 points courtesy of Mark Gormley.
