Among the changes are the following:
- Drafting time penalties have been adjusted:
Long Distance: 3 minutes
Middle Distance: 2 minutes
Standard Distance: 1 minute
Sprint Distance: 30 seconds - Drafting zone has been unified to 12 meters and 25 seconds to pass another athlete in all events.
- Time penalty for super sprint races has been reduced to 5 seconds.
- It is forbidden to pull, push or use any inanimate object to help progress during the swim.
- Athletes who are given a time penalty have the option to decide whether to stop and serve the penalty or continue to the finish. Not stopping will result in disqualification on crossing the finish line. The athlete may then protest the penalty.
