The City of Derry Triathlon returns on Saturday, 5th September 2026 -and it’s shaping up to be one of the standout races of the season. Here are seven reasons athletes from across Ireland and beyond are adding it to their calendar.
Race through the heart of the city with a course built around the River Foyle. From the tidal swim to the riverside run and closed-road bike course, you’ll be experiencing a triathlon in a truly iconic setting.

As one of the final races in the 2026 Triathlon Ireland National Series (race 16 of 18), valuable points and strong competition are guaranteed. Perfect for athletes targeting a big finish to their season.
The event will also host the Europe Triathlon Cup City of Derry, bringing international elite athletes to the City of Derry. Age-group athletes will race on much of the same iconic course and experience the same championship atmosphere across the weekend.

The City of Derry Triathlon is more than one race. The weekend includes a Kids Triathlon Taster Session and Fun Run on Friday evening, family activities, and the Waterside Half Marathon on the Sunday – making it a great trip for supporters and families too.
