The Lost Sheep Triathlon Kenmare – Gallery
The 2024 Lost Sheep Triathlon, part of the Triathlon National Series, took place on September 7th in Kenmare, under ideal weather conditions with sunny skies and a clear blue horizon. Athletes from across the country competed in this middle-distance event, covering a 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, and 21 km run. The race served as a crucial point in the national series calendar, with competitors battling for both series points and championship titles.
With perfect weather to accompany them, athletes began the 1.9 km swim in the calm waters off Kenmare before transitioning to the 90 km bike leg, which featured challenging climbs and sweeping descents. The race concluded with a 21 km run through the scenic countryside, offering beautiful views that did little to ease the intensity of the competition.
In the men’s race, Chris Mintern (#299) secured 1st place and set the new course record with a total time of 04:01:24. Mintern set the pace with a swim time of 00:25:49, followed by a swift 00:02:36 transition. His bike split was 02:10:21, and he completed the run in 01:19:48, securing his win. Bryan McCrystal (#4) claimed 2nd place, finishing in 04:06:49, with a swim of 00:32:51, a strong bike leg of 02:05:05, and a run of 01:22:40. Rounding out the podium was Loughlin Campion (#84), who finished in 04:07:50, posting a swim time of 00:30:52, a bike time identical to Mintern’s at 02:10:21, and a run of 01:21:17.
In the women’s race, Becky Woods (#60) triumphed with a time of 04:33:26. She completed the swim in 00:30:50, transitioned in 00:03:33, tackled the bike course in 02:29:04, and finished the run in 01:27:00. Deirdre Casey (#296) finished 2nd with a total time of 04:42:03, posting a swim of 00:30:45, and a run of 01:34:44.
