Preview: The Weekend Ahead

Three Irish athletes in action on Saturday at the 2023 Africa Triathlon Cup Troutbeck. It’s still very early in the season and all will be looking to build on the winter’s training.
The race in Troutbeck is a tough sprint distance course with a hilly bike and run at 2,000m altitude.
In the women’s field, Erin McConnell and Shannon Kelly will be looking to make their mark. For McConnell this weekend kicks off back to back races as she heads to the Arena Games in London next week.

Tomorrow is Shannon Kelly’s first international start of the year, she has been in Troutbeck for the past week to acclimatise to the altitude ahead of the race. Performance Director Gordon Crawford; “Shannon has been training consistently well and is getting ready to develop her race craft at the African Cups.”

James Edgar will be racing the final race of his trip this weekend, having recovered from a blister which halted his progress last weekend.
