From Beginner to Triathlete in Six Weeks

As the season wound down for most, eight women took on the challenge of going from complete beginner to fully fledged triathlete in just six weeks. In partnership with Women in Sport and Physical Activity Northern Ireland (WISPA), the programme involved pool swims, spin bike training and run sessions.

It all ended with a Try-a-Tri event in the Whiterock Leisure Centre in Belfast on 11th October. Guided by coaches Anne Mageean, Diane Cordner and Denise Murphy; the women completed a five minute swim, 15 minute bike and an eight minute run. All participants received a medal to celebrate their achievement.

Angela Fegan really  enjoyed the experience- “It was absolutely amazing- really tough, really hard going but we got there in the end.”

Helen Charlton agreed, “(it was) Really good fun, great to meet people who were keen like me to try something new. I’ve tried a bit of running, a bit of swimming but never biked. It’s a really good chance to put it all together and have a bit of fun along the way.”

Thanks to the coaches who made this program possible.
