The 2022 Making Waves Club Leadership Programme

Club leaders from thirty rowing and triathlon clubs around the country recently completed the Making Waves Club Leadership Programme, organised by Rowing Ireland and Triathlon Ireland.

The Making Waves Club Leadership Programme, in partnership with Rowing Ireland, launched on the 27th September. Following a competitive application process, 30 women were selected from triathlon and rowing clubs around the country.

The programme aimed to support women who work within their clubs to increase their confidence and knowledge and create a network of leaders within our clubs.

The Topics

The programme involved 2 online sessions and a face- to- face day. Key topics addressed included:

  • Club Governance and its role in assisting clubs in the development and implementation of club development plans;
  • Support clubs in designing and implementing club development plans;
  • Support clubs in recruitment and training of volunteers for various roles including committee members;
  • Identify examples of good practice in the areas of club leadership;
  • management and development amongst clubs and share this information at all levels;
  • Develop mutually beneficial working relationships with other key organisations/agencies.

The final session was in Dublin on the 22nd of October at the Sport Ireland Campus. This provided participants the chance to network and consolidate the learning from the online sessions.

The programme was facilitated by David Denieffe; the Vice-President for Academic Affairs at South East Technological University in Carlow. 

Following the programme, support will continue as participants will be paired up with experienced mentors from their respective sports.
