Lough Cutra Castle Super Series – Preview and Start Lists

Super Series Returns

Draft legal racing is back for the summer with the first race of the 2017 Super Series at Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon in Co. Galway this weekend.

Almost 50 athletes will line out across the men’s and women’s races early on Saturday morning, as they bid to take an early lead in this year’s competition.

For the first time ever, the race will include Cat 2 as well as Cat 1 athletes – a measure designed to make racing more competitive right throughout the field.

Athletes to Watch

The absence of a number of Triathlon Ireland’s High Performance development squad athletes (who are currently training at altitude in the Pyrenees) leaves the both races wide open.

But that doesn’t mean that either field will be weakened, as last year’s 5th place men’s series finisher Aichlinn O’Reilly (who has recently won a series of cycling races), 6th place series finisher Brendan Murphy and Sebastian Helka – who finished 9th in the 2016 series – are all on the start list.

Rory Sexton, Brendan Crawford and 3rd place finisher at DCT 2016, Lewis Byram also line out alongside Dave Richardson in a race that sees a host of young, up-and-coming athletes competing.

In the women’s race, Heather Foley and Ellen Murphy (2nd and 3rd overall in the 2016 Super Series) lead a strong field which also includes with Niamh Corry, Kirsten Huysamen and Ailbhe Carroll.

Czech elite athlete Hana Kolarova also lines out in the race, as does Elizabeth Carr who won the National Duathlon Intervarsity Champs earlier this year.
