About the City of Derry Triathlon

On Saturday 5th September athletes from across the island of Ireland and beyond will line up along the banks of the River Foyle for a standout weekend of racing.  

And as one of the final events in the 2026 Triathlon Ireland National Series, this is a race not to be missed.  

Last held in 2017, The City of Derry Triathlon will also host a European Triathlon Cup – attracting a strong, competitive field, including international Elite athletes. 

Age-Group competitors will have the chance to earn Triathlon National Series points.

As part of the Triathlon National Series, the City of Derry Triathlon will host the second to last race in the 2026 Series. 

With up to 500 Athletes taking part – this is a race not to be missed! 

Whether you’re chasing Triathlon National Series points, preparing for Pontevedra, or targeting a late-season PB, the City of Derry Triathlon delivers a race experience that matters.

 

 

Course maps

Sprint Triathlon 

The official swim, bike, and run course maps along this spectator friendly course will be available soon.

  • Swim 750m in the fast flowing, tidal River Foyle 
  • Bike 20km Closed Road bike circuit crossing the counties of Derry and Donegal 
  • Run 5km scenic riverside route including iconic landmarks including the famed walled City and Peace Bridge with a finish in Ebrington Square.

A Triathlon National Series event, the City of Derry Triathlon offers athletes the chance to race for valuable late series points.

For Age Group Athletes, the race forms a fantastic opportunity to race against the best in their field and for those heading to the World Championships in Pontevedra, a great warm up!
