Introducing the Triathlon Club Community League

Say hello to the Triathlon Club Community League – a new league for the triathlon community to earn points for their club in a brand new format, bringing every club and more events across the country into a single competition structure.

The Triathlon Club Community League will join the Triathlon National Series and Duathlon National Series as a place for the multisport community to celebrate swim, bike and run.

The Triathlon Club Community League will be hosted by My Tri Ranking, which is kindly powered by Triathlon Ireland Finance and Insights Partner AccountsIQ. The new league introduces a system where every race, every club and every club member can contribute. It moves beyond a purely performance based model and creates a structure where participation, consistency, and community all matter.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Triathlon Ireland CEO Darren Coombes commented;

“The whole team at Triathlon Ireland is extremely excited to launch this innovative league. A big part of this is inclusion – it gives value to members who might not be competing for Triathlon National Series points, whether that’s beginners, juniors, or those taking part in the minimum two events. Everyone’s contribution matters.”

“The aim is to make every race more meaningful at a club level, encourage broader participation, more athletes doing more races, and strengthen the connection between members and their clubs. We hope this new league really captures the imagination of our clubs and members. Huge thanks also must go to our partners at My Tri Ranking, who have produced this new competition structure for us.”

We know you will have lots of questions, and so there is a full explanation on the league below, and on the FAQ and Triathlon Club Community League pages on our website.

how does it work?

  1. Participation

Clubs are ranked based on how many of their full, swim plus, U23 and age 16-19 junior  members complete at least two sanctioned sprint or standard distance triathlons in Ireland during 2025.

So, the more members a club has actively racing, the better.

  2. Performance

Age-normalised scoring ensures that athletes across all age categories can contribute fairly to their club. Performances are adjusted using a consistent model so that results can be compared on a like-for-like basis across Triathlon Ireland members.

  3. Club Engagement

All of these age-adjusted scores are added together, and an average is calculated for each club.

This total is then combined with the club’s participation rate (the percentage of full, swim plus, U23 and age 16-19 Junior members who raced at two or more sprint/standard triathlons).

Clubs score well by getting lots of members involved and having members who perform strongly relative to their age group – not just by having the fastest athletes overall.

a new structure for club competition

The league introduces a four-division format, creating a clear and competitive structure across clubs nationwide.

Clubs will move between divisions each season, with the top three being promoted and the bottom three relegated. This creates meaningful competition at every level, while maintaining the opportunity for progression and growth.

Divisions have been seeded using 2025 rankings to provide a clear and objective starting point. Full details on this can be found in the FAQ section.
