Race Report: Europe Triathlon Cup – City of Derry 2026
For the first time since 2017, triathlon returned to Derry with the City of Derry Triathlon. The event hosted a massive schedule on Saturday, 5th September and included elite racing with both a Europe Triathlon Junior Cup and the Europe Triathlon Cup – City of Derry, also accompanied by a sold-out age group race.
The Europe Triathlon Junior Cup opened up the day of racing with the Junior Women’s and Junior men’s events. In the afternoon focus shifted to the seniors, with the Elite Women’s and Men’s Europe Triathlon Cup – City of Derry.

López Faraudo tops the elite women's field
In the Elite Women’s event, María López Faraudo (MEX) emerged as the winner, passing Katie Rodda (GBR) in the second half of the run to secure the win. Germany’s Carlotta Büick was third.
Run over sprint distance, the 750m swim began in the River Foyle before moving on to the four lap bike course, along the quays and a 5k run that finished by running across the Peace Bridge and into Ebrington Square.

The last race of the day was the Elite Men’s, with swim conditions at the scheduled race start time determining that the event would be run as a duathlon.
It was close run from the start, with much of the field remaining in a pack through run one and the bike. On the second five kilometre run, Maxime Fluri (SUI) got a small break and finished five seconds ahead of Hamish Reilly (GBR). Etienne La Roux (FRA) claimed the third spot on the podium.

Europe Triathlon Junior Cup - City of derry
The Europe Triathlon Junior Cup saw the junior men’s and junior women’s waves go off ten minutes apart, keeping the action flowing throughout the morning.
Run on the same swim and run courses as the senior events, the bike course was run on the rolling 20k ‘out and back course’ set for the age group race coming later on that morning.
