Vacancy: Independent Director – High Performance

Triathlon Ireland is now seeking an Independent Director with strong High Performance acumen to support our Executive Team and Board in evolving our High Performance strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independent Director of Triathlon Ireland Board.
  • Advise on and enhance our High Performance strategy.
  • Support High Performance initiatives.
  • Contribute to Performance oversight.

Skills:

  • Significant experience in elite or high-performance sport within Ireland, or comparable international systems, ideally in a leadership, governance, or advisory capacity.
  • Experience contributing to or overseeing high-performance strategies, athlete pathways, talent identification programmes, long-term athlete development, or preparation for major competitions (European Championships, World Championships, Olympic/Paralympic Games).
  • Experience engaging with, supporting and constructively challenging High Performance Directors, head coaches, performance leads, or elite athlete groups, with an appreciation of competitive pressures and performance cycles.
  • Strong awareness of governance responsibilities relating to athlete welfare, safeguarding, integrity, anti-doping compliance, and performance-related reporting to funders and agencies.
  • Ability to contribute to performance oversight, including reviewing KPIs, analysing performance data, assessing programme effectiveness, and holding management to account in a supportive but independent manner.
  • Experience working with or alongside key Irish sporting stakeholders, such as:
    • Sport Ireland High Performance
    • Sport Northern Ireland
    • Institute of Sport
    • National or provincial performance centres
    • Olympic Federation of Ireland (OFI) / Paralympics Ireland
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
  • A strong understanding of and interest in endurance sport, multisport systems, or triathlon is desirable but not essential.
