A sold-out event, the ever popular Cobh Jailbreak returned to the east Cork town on Sunday, 31st August 2025. Hosted by Cobh Triathlon Club, challenging conditions saw triathletes take on the iconic course across standard distance with a 1.6k swim, 40k bike and 10k run.
Mintern & Woods On Form
In the men’s race; Chris Mintern made a return to the domestic triathlon scene, and had a convincing win at his local race in Cobh. With a three minute lead out of the water, Mintern cemented his lead by extending it by a further three minutes on the bike course, and cruising the run course to bring home the win.
Mallow TC’s Christopher Horgan has had some solid performances this season and currently sits in second on the Triathlon National Series. Horgan held second from the start to the finish line at Cobh Jailbreak to add to his points tally.
Denis Hegarty came off the bike course with a group of athletes including Wicklow TC’s Scott Graham. Putting in an impressive 29:51 for 10k, Hegarty ran through the field in front to secure the third step on the podium.

Becky Woods had her third win of this year’s Triathlon National Series in the women’s race.
Naas TC’s Aisling Wyer and Piranha TC’s Becky Woods came out of the swim together, with Wyer having a marginally quicker transition to lead onto the bike course. Woods then put in the quickest bike and run splits of the field to extend a four minute lead; securing the win on her first time competing at Cobh Jailbreak.
