Weekend Round Up – 2nd & 3rd June 2018
It was a busy weekend for the sport with TriAthy taking place domestically and four athletes representing Ireland internationally over the bank holiday.
Almost 2,000 line out for TriAthy 2018
The 2018 edition of TriAthy took place on Saturday, 2nd June 2018 where almost 2,000 athletes took part in races ranging from Try-a-Tri, Sprint, Standard to Double Olympic distances.
In near perfect conditions, racing kicked of at 8.10am with the Double Olympic swim start in the River Barrow and continued throughout the day across the four distances.
Supporters lined the streets of Athy to cheer on the athletes and upon reaching the finish a fun, festival atmosphere meant a great day’s racing was had by all.

a busy weekend further afield
Four athletes raced internationally representing Ireland last weekend, Con Doherty, Darren Dunne, Chris Mintern and Ben Shaw.

In Italy, Con Doherty and Darren Dunne raced in the 2018 Cagliari ITU Triathlon World Cup. Finishing just 3 seconds apart, Doherty and Dunne posted the exact same run time to finish 31st and 32nd respectively.

shaw fifth in asia
In the 2018 Taizhou ASTC Triathlon Asian Cup, Ben Shaw finished in 1:54:25 to take fifth position. Australia based Shaw posted the fastest swim of the top five athletes, coming out of the water in fourth position. The 27 year old was strong across all three disciplines to finish inside the top five.

21st for Mintern in dnipro
Chris Mintern raced in the 2018 Dnipro ETU Sprint Triathlon European Cup on Saturday, 2 June, finishing in 21st place and improving five places on his result the previous week in Poland.
