Have you ever wanted to give triathlon a go — but weren’t sure where to start? Whether you’re a complete beginner, a curious crossover from another sport, or a Triathlon Ireland member who’s not involved with a club, our New2Tri programme is the perfect place to begin.
Designed with first-timers in mind, this six-week initiative offers a welcoming, zero-pressure introduction to triathlon. You’ll get hands-on experience with the core disciplines — swimming, cycling (spin bike), and running — with guidance, structure, and a fun community atmosphere along the way. The final week even includes a mini triathlon-style event so you can put your new skills into action!
Each weekly session includes a mix of spin bike, run track, and pool-based training. All you need to bring is:
Swimwear, goggles, and a swim hat
Comfortable running and biking clothes
Running shoes
This a fun, social programme for those new to Tri or Returning to Tri. The programme will take place alternating between two venues.
Bike and Run: SETU Running track
Run and Swim: Bagenalstown outdoor swimming pool & tow path
Start date: 26th June in SETU, Carlow.
Runs every Thursday until the 31st of July.
Times: 7pm-9pm
Participants will need a bike. If you do not have a bike please sign up and let us know.
The best part? There is no cost to take part in the programme. All we ask is that you’re a Triathlon Ireland member, which provides essential insurance cover for training. A Club Training Membership is available for just €33 / £28.30 for the year.
If cost is a barrier, support is available — simply complete this short form:
