International Update: Asuncion World Cup, Asia Cup Turkestan & Uni World Champs
Team Ireland were in action across three international events in August, with athletes competing at the 2026 World Triathlon Cup Asuncion in Paraguay, the Asia Triathlon Cup Turkestan in Kazakhstan and the FISU World University Championship Triathlon in Nyon, Switzerland.
World Triathlon Cup Asuncion, Paraguay
The 2026 World Triathlon Cup Asuncion took place on Sunday 9th August in Paraguay, with athletes racing over an Olympic distance course consisting of a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and 9.4km run.
Hollie Elliott produced a solid performance in the women’s race to claim 10th place in 1:57:54. Speaking after the race, Hollie commented:
In the men’s race, Luke McCarron finished 33rd in 1:47:03. The previous week McCarron recorded a career best to finish 22nd in World Triathlon Cup Rio de Janeiro. Luke commented:
Asia Triathlon Cup Turkestan, Kazakhstan
On Saturday 8th August, James Edgar lined up for the 2026 Asia Triathlon Cup Turkestan in Kazakhstan.
The Olympic-distance event featured a 1.5km swim in the Rowing Canal, followed by a 40km bike and 10km run.
Edgar produced a consistent performance across all three disciplines to finish 19th in 1:51:18, recording splits of 18:04 for the swim, 55:32 on the bike and 36:27 for the run.
FISU World University Championship Triathlon
Team Ireland was also represented on the world university stage in Nyon, Switzerland, where five High Performance team members competed at the 2026 FISU World University Championship Triathlon on 8th – 9th August.
The Championship brought together more than 130 student-athletes representing 32 countries and regions. The individual races featured a 750m swim, 21km bike and 5km run, with a Mixed Team Relay completing the programme.

Results
Katie Youp finished 27th in 1:05:54, with Saoirse O’Brien close behind in 28th in 1:06:02. In the men’s race, Archie Bremner finished 36th in 58:44, followed by Senan McDonnell in 39th in 58:54 with Mathys Bocquet finishing 43rd in 59:31. Team Ireland then combined to finish 11th in the Mixed Team Relay.
Coming Up: World Triathlon Para Cup Alhandra
International racing continues into September, with Donnacha McCarthy and guide Sean Husband set to race at the 2026 World Triathlon Para Cup Alhandra in Portugal on Saturday 5th September.
McCarthy and Husband began their 2026 season at the World Triathlon Para Series in Yokohama, Japan, where they produced a fifth-place finish in the men’s PTVI category.
The pair will now look to build on that performance in Alhandra, where the men’s PTVI race is scheduled to start at 10:55 local time.
The Alhandra course features a river swim, a rolling but non-technical bike course and a flat run.

Team Ireland Set for Europe Triathlon Cup City of Derry
International racing returns to the island of Ireland on Saturday 5th September, as the Europe Triathlon Cup City of Derry welcomes elite and junior athletes from across the world to the city.
The event will take place around Ebrington Square and the River Foyle, with athletes tackling a river swim, a technical bike course and a flat run through the city.
The junior races will take place earlier in the day before the elite women and men take centre stage.
