Claudy’s Chloe MacCombe has finished in a strong fifth place at the World Triathlon Para Cup in Paris this morning in the PTVI class.
The race simulates the same course as the Paralympic Games next year, making it an extremely important event as the Derry triathlete eyes Paris 2024 qualification. The race was modified to a duathlon (run, bike, run) on the morning of the event, with the swim being cancelled, which didn’t deter MacCombe along with her guide Aoibh Clarke from giving it their all. MacCombe started the first run of 2.5km in 6th but moved up during the 20km bike leg, holding her position throughout the final run leg to the finish.
Speaking after the event MacCombe said, “it was really good, a fast course. Aoibh’s first time guiding and she did fantastic. It was cloudy and not too warm, so perfect conditions in terms of visibility and heat. I did a lot of heat prep before arriving so that really paid off.”
