Club Membership Auto-Renewal (2027) – Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is my club required to take part in Club Auto-Renewal?
No.
Participation is entirely optional. During the annual club affiliation process, each club can decide whether they wish to participate in Club Auto-Renewal.
If a club chooses not to participate, there is no change to the current renewal process and members will continue to purchase their club membership as previous through their TI account.

2. How does my club opt in?
As part of the annual club affiliation process, clubs will renew their affiliation for the upcoming membership year. During this process, clubs will be asked whether they wish to opt into Club Auto-Renewal for their members.
Only clubs that actively opt in will be included for the upcoming membership year.

3. Will all members automatically be enrolled?
No.
Only members who meet all of the following criteria will be included:
Their club has opted into Club Auto-Renewal.
They are currently opted into Triathlon Ireland Membership Auto-Renewal.
They actively opt into Club Auto-Renewal through their Triathlon Ireland account during the member opt-in period.
If a club chooses not to participate in Club Auto-Renewal, its members will continue to renew their club membership through the club’s existing renewal process.

4. How will members opt in?
Once a club confirms it wishes to participate, eligible members will receive an email inviting them to opt into Club Auto-Renewal through their Triathlon Ireland account.
Members will simply log into their account, review the details and confirm whether they wish to participate.
Members who do not opt in within the stated timeframe will not be included in Club Auto-Renewal for that membership year and will continue to renew their club membership through their club’s normal process.

5. Can members choose not to participate?
Yes.
Club Auto-Renewal is completely optional for members. Members who do not wish to participate can simply choose not to opt in.

6. Will Triathlon Ireland membership and club membership renew together?
Yes.
If a member has opted into both Triathlon Ireland Membership Auto-Renewal and Club Auto-Renewal, both renewals will be processed together during the annual renewal period.
The recurring payment will include the applicable Triathlon Ireland membership fee and the member’s selected club membership fee. Further information on payment timing and member communications will be provided before launch.

7. What happens if my club does not participate?
Nothing changes.
Members will continue to renew their club membership directly with the club using the club’s existing renewal process.

8. What happens if a member wants to change clubs?
Members who intend to join a different club should not opt into Club Auto-Renewal for their current club.
They can instead join their new club through the standard membership process.
Further guidance will be provided ahead of the renewal period.

9. What happens if a member misses the opt-in window?
If a member does not opt in within the advertised timeframe, they will not be included in Club Auto-Renewal for that membership year.
They can still renew their club membership directly with their club using the normal renewal process.

10. Can members opt out later?
Yes.
Members will continue to have control over their auto-renewal preferences through their Triathlon Ireland account and can manage these settings before the annual renewal date.
Further details on deadlines for making changes will be communicated before launch.

11. Will clubs know which members have opted in?
Yes.
Participating clubs will have visibility of members who have opted into Club Auto-Renewal, enabling them to manage memberships and plan accordingly.
Further details on reporting and administration will be shared before implementation.

12. Why is Triathlon Ireland introducing Club Auto-Renewal?
The aim is to make the renewal process simpler and more convenient for both members and clubs.
Benefits include:
A simpler renewal experience for members.
Fewer missed renewals.
Improved membership retention.
Reduced administration for participating clubs.
A more streamlined annual membership process.
Participation remains optional for both clubs and members.

13. How has club feedback influenced the proposal?
Feedback from clubs has directly shaped the proposed process. As a result:
Participation is optional for clubs.
Members must actively opt in before their club membership can be renewed automatically.
Members who do not opt in will continue to renew directly with their club.
Clubs remain in control of whether they participate each year.
The process has been designed to ensure transparency and member consent at every stage.

PAYMENT & SECURITY

14. How are payments handled if my currency is not in euros?

All payments are processed in euro (€). If your bank account or payment card uses a different currency, your bank or card provider will convert the charge using the applicable exchange rate at the time the transaction is processed. Any currency conversion fees are determined by your bank or card provider.

15: Does Triathlon Ireland store my card or bank details?
No. Triathlon Ireland does not store your card or bank details. All payments are securely processed by our payment provider, Opayo, using tokenisation. Tokenisation replaces your sensitive payment information with a secure token that can be used to process future recurring payments without exposing your card details.

16: What data does Triathlon Ireland retain for recurring payments?
Triathlon Ireland does not retain any card numbers, bank details, or payment credentials. For recurring payments, Opayo provides a secure token that represents your payment method. This token is used to process future renewals, while Triathlon Ireland only specifies the amount to be charged.

17. What club membership types can be included in Club Auto-Renewal?
Participating clubs choose whether to offer Club Auto-Renewal as part of the annual club affiliation process.
Club Auto-Renewal applies to the membership type a member holds at the time they opt into Club Auto-Renewal. For example, if a member holds an Adult Membership when they opt in, that membership type will be renewed automatically.
Clubs do not need to configure Club Auto-Renewal separately for different membership categories. Any membership type that can be purchased through the Triathlon Ireland system will be eligible for Club Auto-Renewal.
Further guidance on supported membership categories will be provided before launch.

18. What if a member wants to change their Triathlon Ireland or club membership type?
Members should ensure they have selected the correct Triathlon Ireland membership type and club membership type before opting into Club Auto-Renewal.
The recurring payment will renew the membership type the member holds at the time they opt into Club Auto-Renewal. Members who wish to renew under a different membership category should update their membership before opting in or choose not to participate in Club Auto-Renewal for that membership year and renew manually.

19. What happens if a member wants to change clubs?
Club Auto-Renewal applies to all active club memberships a member holds, provided those clubs participate in Club Auto-Renewal.
Members who wish to leave a club before renewal should opt out of Club Auto-Renewal for that club.
Members who wish to join a new club can do so through the standard Triathlon Ireland membership process.
If a member changes clubs during the membership year, their renewal will reflect the club memberships they hold at the time the recurring payment is processed.

20. When do clubs need to confirm their membership fees?
Participating clubs will be asked to confirm their membership fees and applicable membership categories as part of the annual club affiliation process.
This ensures the correct club membership fees are in place before members are invited to opt into Club Auto-Renewal and before any recurring payments are processed.

21. Can members opt out later?
Yes.
Members will be able to manage their auto-renewal preferences through their Triathlon Ireland account up until the published cut-off date before recurring payments are processed.
Members who no longer wish to renew a club membership through Club Auto-Renewal should opt out before the recurring payment is processed.
The annual renewal timeline, including key deadlines for updating membership details or opting out, will be published in advance of each renewal cycle.

22. What information will members receive before a recurring payment is taken?
Members will receive communications during the renewal process to support Club Auto-Renewal.
