Russell White Chengdu 2017

Russell White finished inside the top 20 at a very competitive World Cup race in Chengdu over the weekend.

White, who was racing his first World Cup event of 2017 came home in 17th position, a mere 23secs behind winner Matthew Hauser of Australia.

The triathlon was raced over a 400m swim, a 10km bike and a 2.5km run, ensuring a blisteringly quick spectacle and the tightest of margins at the finish line.

In an exciting move, athletes has to qualify for the finals through a series of sprint distance semi finals the day before. Russell White came through his semi final in 6th place, which earned him start number 17 on the pontoon for the final - a placing he matched in the result.

Next up for Russell White is the World Triathlon event in Yokohama - the beginning of the northern hemisphere leg of triathlon's top tier of racing.
