Building on the Success of 2016
2016 was an enormously successful year for triathlon in Ireland, with record numbers of people taking part in the sport and more races than ever (200+) staged against some of the most spectacular backdrops right across the island.
Triathlon Ireland has carefully examined and weighed-up all applications for next year's National Championships, Super Series and National Series events and is delighted to announce the successful bidders who will host the biggest events of 2017.
Earlier, we announced the details of the 2017 Duathlon National Series and National Championships.
National Championships

Following on from an enormously exciting Super Series race in 2016, City of Derry will host this year's Sprint Distance Championships on June 11th. As with last year, the 2017 sprint champs will be part of the Super Series of races and will be draft legal. Age Group athletes in the non-drafting event at Derry will get the chance to race for National Champs medals in each age category.
This year's Aquathlon Champs will be staged in Coosan Point near Athlone on July 22nd. In early August, the best youngsters in the country will be headed to Loughrea for the National Youth Championships which are being hosted by Predator Triathlon Club.
This year's Standard (olympic) Distance Championships will be hosted by Caroline Kearney triathlon in Lilliput adventure centre near Mullingar on August 12th. The 2017 championships will be a non-drafting race and because the race is not part of next year's Super Series, all athletes racing at Caroline Kearney will be eligible to become National Champion.
The Hardman Triathlon in Killarney will once again host the long distance championships while the growing discipline of Aquabike will be part of one of the biggest events of the calendar when Dublin City Triathlon hosts the national champs in swim-biking.
Finally, the Lost Sheep returns as the host of the Middle Distance Championships for 2017, which comes towards the end of the season on September 16th.

Racing begins at Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon in May, before heading to the National Sprint Championships in Derry two weeks later. After a one month break, the Super Series will return to the extremely fast course at Two Provinces triathlon before concluding with the now familiar pairing of Dublin City Triathlon at the end of August and Pulse Port Beach Triathlon in early September.
