Technical Official

Overview

This qualification is aimed at individuals who are interested in becoming a volunteer Technical Official and has been designed to provide attendees with the knowledge required to begin officiating, as well as covering the soft skills needed to develop as an Official.

The training is made up of:

  • An online course consisting of 11 modules (each module no more than 15mins)
  • A live webinar to facilitate questions & final learning
  • An associated knowledge tester
  • The completion of six shadows of qualified Officials

This course will combine the marshal and local technical official course. After successful completion of this course modules, participants can join the online webinar, complete an open book exam and shadow at six Triathlon Ireland sanctioned events (one event must be pool based and two multisport). Participants will be asked to complete an online TO report for each event and feedback will be provided.

The vast majority of candidates taking part in this course will have a good amount of experience within the sport of triathlon from a participation, coaching or volunteering perspective.

Role Descriptor

Following accreditation of the LTO course and two years’ experience in officiating, LTO officials will be eligible to complete the National Technical Official Course (NTO). Completion of the NTO course and officiating at an ITU event will allow participants to meet the criteria to qualify as an ITU Level One Technical Official.

Pre-Requisites

To attend the course candidates must:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age
