The Local Technical Official Course

Overview

This qualification is aimed at individuals who are interested in becoming a volunteer Technical Official and has been designed to provide attendees with the knowledge required to begin officiating, as well as covering the soft skills needed to develop as an Official.

The training is made up of:

  • An online course consisting of 11 modules (each module no more than 15mins)
  • A live webinar to facilitate questions & final learning
  • An associated knowledge tester
  • The completion of six Shadows of qualified Officials

This course will combine the Marshal and Local Technical Official course. After successful completion of the course modules, participants must complete an open book exam, attend the online webinar, and shadow at six Triathlon Ireland sanctioned events (including at least 2 triathlons and also two different multisport events). Participants will need to complete a TO Report/Logbook for each event they Shadow at prior to receiving their qualification.

The vast majority of candidates taking part in this course will have a good amount of experience within the sport of triathlon from a participation, coaching or volunteering perspective.

Role Descriptor

Following receipt of their LTO Qualification and two years’ experience in officiating, LTOs will be eligible to complete the National Technical Official Course (NTO). Completion of the NTO course and officiating at a World Triathlon event will allow participants to meet the criteria to qualify as a World Triathlon Level One Technical Official.

Pre-Requisites

To attend the course candidates must:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age
