How to become a Triathlon Ireland Technical Official
The Technical Officials officiating pathway consists of five levels and is linked between Triathlon Ireland and World Triathlon.
This pathway allows Technical Officials to progress the level of event they are eligible to officiate at, from National Events to World Triathlon events.
- Marshal / Participant / Volunteer / Coach – Club Events
- Local Technical Official (Shadow events / Complete Reports)
- National Technical Official (Including WTO Level 1)
- International – Level 2 TO
- Interntional – Level 3 TO
Technical Official programme
Training Technical Officials to be confident in their role and displaying consistency across Triathlon Ireland events is essential to support the development of triathlon. Many of our Technical Officials have started out as event marshals, only to continue their journey by taking up officiating.
The Technical Officials Education Programme aims to develop a team of highly competent Officials across the island of Ireland to support the ever increasing number of events being held. The programme provides a clear pathway for progression, with courses designed to develop high quality Officials and encouraging the education of competitors especially at beginner events.
Stages and Timeline
Step 1
Experience within the multisport from a participation, coaching or volunteering experience.
Step 2
Local Technical Official (LTO)
- Complete LTO Course
- Complete Open Book Exam
- Shadow at Six events (one pool based and two different multisports)
- Submit TO Report based on observations
- Complete TO Log Book (over 2 years)
All the while receiving feedback, support and gaining experience.
Stage 3 (Year 2)
- CPD and Assessment
National Technical Official and World Triathlon Level 1 Technical Official
- Complete TO Technical Official Course
- Complete Open Book Exam
- Officiate at International Triathlon Event
- Complete TO Log Book
