Elite & Junior Squad Weekend Race Reports
World Triathlon Cup Hong Kong
Russell White made his return to international racing for 2024 this weekend at the World Triathlon Cup Hong Kong. White exited the swim towards the back of the mass group of athletes before heading out for five laps of a flat and technical bike course. Despite tackling the course at over 41 kph, he was unable to keep within touching distance of the front pack. White crossed the line in 48th overall, and will now turn his focus to the 2024 World Triathlon Cup Wollongong on the 20th of April.

Europe Triathlon Cup Quarteira
Despite going into the 2024 Europe Triathlon Cup Quarteira ranked number 1, James Edgar was forced to make the tough decision to abandon his race. Commenting after his race, Edgar stated honestly that he, “Took a bit of a gamble racing back to back Olympic distance races on 2 different continents in the hope of scoring some good points from a breakaway. Made the breakaway out of the water going onto the bike in 5th before the travel caught up with
me and the effort far outweighed the output. Time to rest, recover and prepare for bigger goals in the coming weeks.”
Edgar will now prepare for the 2024 World Triathlon Indoor Cup Lievin next weekend. The race features a different, much shorter, format of 150m swim, 3 km cycling and 1 km run. The race also takes place entirely within a sports stadium, with the pool purpose built for the occasion.
Edgar was 5th here in 2022, ten seconds behind overall winner and former World Triathlon Series Champion Vincent Luis.
Europe junior cup quarteira
Also racing in Quarteira, at the Europe Junior Cup, were Sean McMahon, Ethan Doherty, and Mathys Bocquet. The three Junior athletes finished in 46th, 54th, and 55th, respectively, gaining valuable international experience early in the season and their athlete careers.
