McCarthy Races A Coruna Para Triathlon World Cup

Donnacha McCarthy is back in action this weekend and in the hunt for a top placing at 2021 World Triathlon Para Cup A Coruna.

The northern Spanish town hosts eight athletes in McCarthy’s PTVI race – four of whom are ranked in the top 11 in the World.

Guiding McCarthy is Niall Cornyn in their second outing as a pair – both have a reputation for being extremely fast on the run but according to Para Triathlon Technical Director Eamonn Tilley, it’s on the swim that McCarthy and Cornyn will need to bring their focus to mix it with the best.

“We are expecting a good result based upon their current form. An improved swim is what Donnacha will be targeting, with a strong run and a strong bike it should put him in contention.”

Conditions are not too dissimilar to home – it’s been raining for the past few days in Spain but temperatures are in the high teens and winds are light. A sheltered swim and a pan-flat bike and run course await McCarthy and Cornyn when they toe the line at 11:20am local time.
