Besancon Top Five for McCarthy

Donnacha McCarthy has showed more evidence of his increasing class with a top five result at the World Triathlon Para Cup in Besancon, France.
McCarthy and guide Niall Cornyn completed the sprint distance course in 1hr 7mins 40secs in their first international outing as a team.
The result follows McCarthy’s 9th place at World Triathlon Para Series Leeds last weekend.
Speaking after the race, McCarthy said he was happy with the result:
“It was a tough course, very hilly on the bike and quite technical on the descents. I had a solid swim, came second out ofthe water and we just worked hard on the bike and gae it our all on the run course.”
McCarthy also paid tribute to his guide, Niall Cornyn: “It was Niall’s first international race and first race guiding as well and he absolutely fantastic.”
Also racing in Bresancon were Mark Millar and Aidan McGlynn.
Millar, who is still in his early stages as a paratriathlete, was disqualified for not making his way to the penalty box after he made an infringement heading in to transition.
McGlynn was forced to retire after being injured at a turn buoy during the swim.
