Run and Ride – Nigel O’Sullivan
As we reach the mid way point of Run and Ride, we’ve been speaking to some of the athletes that are taking part in this year’s programme.
Today, we focus on Nigel O’Sullivan from Waterford Triathlon Club.

Tell us about how you got in to Triathlon?
I started in triathlon about ten years ago. At the time, I was unfit, overweight and a smoker and I wanted to make changes in my lifestyle for the better.
The triathlon community here in Waterford Triathlon Club and the county in general, is well supported and I enjoy meeting people who have common goals and aspirations.
The camaraderie and banter among athletes is a big motivator for training. For me, showing a good example to my five children by eating well, training consistently and having goals is a factor I bear in mind also.
How is your training going?
My training for the Run & Ride is going very well. My coach, Martin Kirwan of Focus on Fitness has put my training plan in place to coincide with this great initiative.
Lots of other athletes who train with him have signed up, so there are plenty of brick sessions ahead over the next few weeks!
Tell us where you are going to do your Run and Ride Duathlon on May 15th/16th
I plan to complete the Run & Ride Duathlon here in Waterford.I’ll run on the scenic & peaceful Déise Greenway and cycle the glorious Copper Coast road. Might as well take in our fantastic vista as I complete the challenge!

Run and Ride Weekend is Coming!
More than 1,200 people around Ireland are part of this year’s Run and Ride.
If you haven’t signed up for the training plans but would still like to take part in the duathlon weekend on May 15th/16th that’s no problem! Just head to our registration site so you can post up your result.
