Zwift Autumn League – Round 8 Results

Zwift Autumn League Rnd 8

The Figure 8 Loop in Watopia is a course that has it all – rollers, flats and climbs, making it one of the most varied courses in the league and a great race as the penultimate round!

Overall the league tables remained quite settled this week as we head into the ninth and final round at UCI World’s Richmond Course next week. A reminder to all tri clubs that if you want your final points total to be correct – make sure that all riders who have earned points for you (in any round) still have your club set as their team on ZwiftPower. Some clubs have lower points this week than last, this is because ZwiftPower has recalculated based on all current riders on your club team.

Results

The full results from Race 8 are on the event’s ZwiftPower page.

ZwiftPower also has the overall detailed individual and club leaderboards for all cats from A to D.

What we run through below are the Triathlon Ireland rankings so it’s members only – if you happen to be a member and your name is missing – just drop us an email and we’ll fix it for you.

Why Am I Not There?

If you are unsure of how ZwiftPower applies its scoring system, scroll down to the bottom of the page, which is also where you’ll need to go if you were one of the 40 riders who were ‘filtered’ from last night’s event. This is a pretty high number of filtered riders – the majority were for HR, the absence of Heart Rate data – this can be fixed people! Connect your HR next week cause we want you in the results sheet!

Analysis

Overall both the women’s and men’s leaderboards remain unchanged heading into the final round. Emma Hingston picked up two points last night and now has a seven point lead on second placed Heather Foley. It will be interesting to see how this pans out next week, it’s down to the wire between the two.  In the men’s league table, Enda Bagnall’s lead looks fairly secure, and the points race here is for second and third with 14 points separating Belpark’s Emmet Dunleavy and Lisburn’s Michael Sinton.

Lisburn have significantly closed the gap to Belpark in the Club’s League, jumping 202 points this week. Belpark still have a 98 point buffer but if Lisburn have a similar week next week – it could earn them the win.

Analysis

A win in this week’s B races sees Kevin Derrig move into the lead on the the B League table, and Oliver Harkin in second. Harkin has had consistent results throughout the last number of weeks, adding to his points haul and is just 9 points off the lead. 3D Tri Club’s Simon Befort moves down to third.

The women’s B league table sees Gail Martin move into second, Beáta Kis still holds the lead.

In the team table, 3D drop points to move to second this week and Belpark take the lead. This may be short lived however as it looks like a rider has changed their team from 3D TC and that is where this change is coming from. If all riders reinstate 3D as their team on their ZwiftPower accounts – this will rectify.

Analysis

Medbh Peavoy leads the women’s league, where Sinead O’Connor lies in third place (note: an earlier version of this article omitted Sinead we which are happy to correct. If you think the same has happened to you – just scroll back up to the Results heading where we have instructions for what to do). Niall McMonagle retains his solid lead in the men’s lead but as we have seen in this everchanging category previously, both he and Medbh Peavoy will need to defend this lead next week to ensure their wins!

A solid week of results for Piranha sees them move into fourth, and Wexford TC enter the top ten, otherwise the top of the Club League table remains largely unchanged.

Analysis

This week Priscilla Crombie reclaimed her lead in the Women’s D League table with an eighth place finish overall in last night’s race. Kim Campbell is in second with Catherine Hanly remaining in third place moving into Round 9.

James Gallagher still retains his lead in the men’s league but Alan Mitchell has closed the gap to just 12 points, leaving it all to play for next week in the final round.

Mako TC jump from 11th to eighth this week, and Pulse TC from eighth to seventh – there are no other big shifts inside the top ten this week. Lanesboro have a comfortable lead and look set to take the win in this category.

ZwiftPower’s Scoring System

Zwift racing differs from what we’ve all come to expect from in-real-life triathlon racing.

Clubs

While the league is open to everybody, the club rankings in this race report only take Triathlon Ireland clubs in to account. If you are one of the many riders who had their club listed as ‘Triathlon Ireland’ you won’t be included in the club rankings.

However it’s simple to set your up a profile for your local triathlon club on ZwiftPower and use it for your future races.

In fact, this is something we’d urge you to do.

Gender

ZwiftPower applies points to riders according to their position in the race – regardless of gender. This isn’t an ideal points solution and is something we’d like to see changed (so that women have a completely separate points allocation). However, we are working within the confines of ZwiftPower, which while imperfect is an incredibly powerful platform in other respects so bear with us.

Filtered Riders

A relatively large number of riders were ‘filtered’ or excluded from the results sheet for various infringements. The two most common were HR (having no heart rate data) and ZP (not having a verified power meter.

While Zwift racing is primarily about having fun, we have a responsibility to ensure that any race that carries our name is also fair so unfortunately if you were excluded or ‘filtered’ it is for a legitimate reason. Filtering is an automatic, data based decision by ZwiftPower designed to ensure an above board race.
