On Saturday Team Ireland’s James Corbett took on the World Triathlon Cup in Rome, racing at the Laghetto dell’EUR in the Italian capital.
Producing a strong performance, Corbett finished 21st in 54:56 with the race won by GB’s Alex Yee.
This was the fourth year of World Cup racing in Rome, with the event attracting a strong international field.
The Elite Men’s Sprint distance race started at 11:00am with the swim taking place in the Laghetto dell’EUR, followed by a mostly flat but technically demanding five-lap bike course including a short climb, tight corners and two 180-degree turns.
The final 5km run consisted of two laps of a generally flat course, with a short climb at the end of each lap.
James’ second race for Team Ireland, racing in Rome provided another valuable opportunity to earn LA28 qualification points, as the build towards LA28 continues.
On Sunday, Team Ireland’s Erin McConnell was back in action as she lined up in the Elite Women’s race at the Europe Triathlon Cup in Ceuta.
The Elite Women’s race got underway at 11:30am with a 750m beach-start swim. They then headed onto a 20.8km coastal bike course, made up of four laps of 5.2km. The flat and fast course took athletes through the streets of Ceuta with the final 5km run seeing athletes completing two laps of 2.5km on a flat course.
Erin produced a strong performance to finish sixth overall in 1:01:00, and was in the mix throughout after setting up with a front pack swim.
USA’s Annie Fuller took first place in 59:25, with Spain’s Marina Muñoz Hernando second in 59:44 and Liberty Ricca completing the podium in 59:55. McConnell’s sixth-place finish put her firmly among the leading athletes in a tightly contested field.

The final Triathlon National Series race of 2026 was held at Port Beach,Co Louth hosted by Pulse Triathlon Club on Saturday 26th September.
World Championship Age Group racing with top 10 finishes, Pontevedra provided a memorable week for Tri-Team Ireland.
