Intervarsity National Championships 2026
Represent Your College or University in Triathlon and Duathlon!
Triathlon Ireland is delighted to announce the return of the Intervarsity National Championships for 2026, offering college and university students across Ireland the chance to compete for national titles in both duathlon and triathlon.
This year, the championships will be hosted across two iconic events:
- Phoenix Park Duathlon – Intervarsity Duathlon National Championships
- Galway Tribesman Triathlon – Intervarsity Triathlon National Championships
These events provide a fantastic platform for students to represent their university or college, experience championship racing, and be part of a growing and competitive student community within the sport.

What to expect
Event: Phoenix Park Duathlon
Intervarsity Duathlon National Championships
A fast, accessible early-season race set in the heart of Dublin

Sunday 19th April 2026
Time:
9am
Location: Pheonix Park, Dublin 8, Ireland
Race Format:
- Run – Bike – Run
- Sprint Duathlon – 5km run / 21km bike / 2.5km run
- Fully closed roads
Why race?
- Perfect entry point (no swim required)
- Ideal for runners and cyclists
- Part of the Duathlon National Series

Event: Galway Tribesman Triathlon
Date:
Sunday 14th June 2026
Time:
8.15am (approx)
Location:
University of Galway, Corrib Village, Dangan
Race Format:
-
Swim: 750 m downstream in the River Corrib, one of Europe’s fastest rivers.

Bike: A flat, fast, out-and-back route along the Moycullen bypass.

Run: A scenic finish through the University of Galway campus and along the Corrib.

- Clearly marked routes with great spectator support
- Flat and fast course suitable for all levels

Who can Compete?
The Intervarsity Championships are open to:
- Students currently enrolled in a recognised third-level institution in Ireland
- Full-time or part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students
- Athletes of all abilities
Participants must confirm their college / University during registration to be included in Intervarsity results.
National Championship Eligibility
To be eligible for Intervarsity National Championship titles and medals, athletes must:
- Hold a valid Triathlon Ireland membership
- Be a registered student at the time of the event
- Compete in accordance with Triathlon Ireland Competition Rules
- Meet National Championship eligibility criteria (including residency where applicable)
Athletes who do not meet these criteria can still participate but will not be eligible for championship titles or medals.
2025 Intervarsity Highlights
Students from across Ireland come together to compete for Intervarsity honours.
At the 2025 Championships held at the Galway Tribesman Triathlon, standout performances included:
Open (Men) Overall
- 1st – Mathys Bocquet (University of Limerick)
- 2nd – Ross Killalea
- 3rd – Sean McGinley (University of Limerick)
Female Overall
- 1st – Aine Kinsella
- 2nd – Izabella Chidlow (University of Limerick)
