HP Development Pathway : Purpose & Approach

Triathlon Ireland’s High Performance (HP) Development Pathway, supported by Sport Ireland, is a key part of Triathlon Ireland’s pathway to international competition. Below you will find information on the pathway, and important key dates for 2026. 

In 2026, HP Development Pathway athletes will have the chance to attend:

  • Monthly training days to support consistent development of athletes
  • Performance Assessments to benchmark progress and readiness

The Triathlon Ireland team of regionally based HP Development Pathway Coaches will be providing more young athletes the opportunity to join the High Performance Development Pathway alongside delivering structured training opportunities to prepare athletes for international competition and long term success in the sport.

Key Pathway Dates for 2026 

Triathlon Ireland’s High Performance Development Pathway continues to build momentum this season, with a series of important opportunities for developing athletes to test, learn, and progress. Below is a clear guide to the upcoming key dates and what each stage offers.

IRISH Performance Assessment

22nd March | Omagh and Enniskillen 

This one day assessment is a key preparation step for athletes targeting international progression.

  • Swim: Pool session in Omagh
  • Bike & Run: Conducted on the airfield at Saint Angelo’s Airport in Enniskillen

Purpose:

    • Replicates the structure and demands of the British Performance Assessments (BPAs)
    • Provides athletes with a realistic, high-performance testing environment
    • Offers valuable benchmarking and feedback

Open to all High Performance Development Pathway Athletes.

British Performance Assessment

18th and 19th April |  Nottingham

A key milestone in the Pathway, this assessment brings together top emerging athletes from across the UK and Ireland.

  • Swim: Nottingham (Saturday) Bike & Run: Airfield at Kendrew Barracks (Sunday)

  • Focus: High-performance testing across all disciplines
  • Opens up the British Super Series
  • Earliest opportunity to compete and benchmark against those that will be our Team Ireland competitors at junior, U23 and Senior international events for years to come. 

This stage represents a significant step toward the next stage of triathlon development, offering athletes exposure to competition against elite-level standards and benchmarking.
