Piranha Triathlon Club Donate Defibrillator for Triathlon Community Use
Piranha Triathlon Club have donated a portable defibrillator to Triathlon Ireland, an important and potentially life saving piece of equipment. Presented to Triathlon Ireland CEO Darren Coombes by Piranha Chair Adele Hall, this defibrillator will be available for use at training sessions, courses and events throughout the country.
The defibrillator was originally purchased from funds raised by Piranha Triathlon Club, the Kitesurfing Community and friends and family of the late Ger Fennelly, who was a Piranha Triathlon Club member and an avid triathlete and kitesurfer. The fundraising efforts also purchased two other defibrillators which are now located permanently in Clontarf, one at Bull Wall and one at the Wooden Bridge. Chairperson of Piranha Triathlon Club, Adele Hall remarks on the significance of this donation from their club;
“Ger Fennelly had been a long standing and valued member of Piranha TC when he died tragically in October 2020. He was a very active club member and volunteered his time and energy freely. Ger loved triathlon, representing Piranha at triathlons around the country and abroad. Ger made a lasting impression on many in the triathlon community and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. We are delighted to donate the portable defibrillator to Triathlon Ireland in Ger’s memory, which we hope will be used widely within the triathlon community at races and events all around the country. It is a wonderful and fitting legacy for our friend and clubmate, Ger.”
Darren Coombes said; “We are really grateful to Piranha TC for their generous donation, it’s something that will benefit the wider triathlon community throughout the country. While our sanctioned events have an ambulance in attendance, this wouldn’t be the case for training sessions and courses, and that’s where this donation can make a real difference.”
