Weekend Round-Up June 11th & 12th With two Vodafone National Series races taking place on Saturday, a massive ITU race for the high performance squad in Leeds on Sunday, and an important junior ETU race in the Netherlands, last weekend was one of the busiest of the triathlon season so far.On top of that, clubs staged races in Longford, Derry, Kildare and Clare - catering for more than 1,000 triathletes over the course of the weekend. Walsh and Tighe Win in WestportTI junior development athlete Ben Walsh won in front of a home crowd at the Westport sprint distance triathlon in Co. Mayo on Saturday.Walsh emerged just a few seconds off the lead coming out of the swim and soon took control of the race on the 20km bike which brought competitors to the foot of the spectacular Croagh Patrick. In a very tight finish that saw a mere 23 secs separate the top three, 17-year-old Walsh hung on to take victory over the extremely fast finishing Eamonn Staunton, who took second having caught Ruaidhrí Geraghty just before the line.In the women's race, TI development athlete Laura Tighe led from start to finish with an impressive performance to finish ahead of Belpark teammates Ellen Murphy and Derval Devaney.A full gallery of images from the Westport triathlon is available on our facebook page and you can view the provisional results from the race here.Mintern Wins AgainIn West Cork, Chris Mintern continued his winning streak with a comfortable victory at the Fastnet Triathlon in the village of Schull. Mintern dominated all three legs of the race, finishing two and a half minutes clear of the evergreen Trevor Woods.Donncha Kiely of Cork Triathlon Club took third place a further minute back.Jessica Bruton took victory in the women's race by 50secs over Katie Hickson, with Siobhan Devlin finishing in 3rd place a further 2mins back.Provisional results from the Fastnet Triathlon are available here and we have hundreds of images from the race that you can access for free on our facebook page.Vodafone National Series Taking Shape With seven races now completed in the 2016 Vodafone National Series, the rankings are beginning to take shape. You can check where you stand by heading to the series rankings page (note - all athletes receive a NYQ - Not Yet Qualified - beside their points until they have reached the minimum requirement of one olympic, one sprint and two other races completed).Dunne and Compton Win BoruManIn Co Clare meanwhile, TI junior development athlete Darren Dunne continued his fine form this season by winning the BoruMan sprint distance triathlon ahead of Barney McCullagh and Ross Higgins. The women's race was won by Denise Compton over Aoibhe Reilly (2nd) and junior athlete Elaine Yelverton (3rd). Results from the BoruManTarmonator & Blessington ResultsIn the midlands, Longford Triathlon Club had a busy weekend, hosting the 2nd annual Tarmonator race on Sunday and a kids' race the day before.
