Zwift Winter-Spring League: Rnd 7 Results
Round 7: Greatest London Flat
It was back on the TT bikes for Round 7 of the Winter-Spring League and a 31km race against the clock on the Greatest London Flat course.
The jury is out on whether a TT effort in Zwift is tougher than a regular race – a quick look at the results shows that for the most part, the strongest riders in a draft legal race will post up the top results in a time trial – there are some very notable exceptions however that a quick look through the league standings will highlight. Another notable feature of the time trial is how riders from lower categories can beat the times posted by those with a superior W/KG value – just like in real life, being aero and pacing the effort yields results in a Zwift time trial.
Congrats to those who held their focus and power for the full 40-60mins of pain! Well done to our winners on the night – A Cat leader Enda Bagnall (who was the the quickest of all 300 riders a very impressive 73secs!) Women’s A cat winner Aoife Wilson; Men’s B Cat winner Mick Davis – who also managed a very impressive 10th quickest of any rider last night; and Women’s B Cat winner Clare Dillon, who on top of winning 61 points was also the quickest of all the women in the race.
Well done to Richard Ferris, the men’s C Cat winner, Elaine Lally who came out on top of a very competitive Women’s C cat; Kevin Hughes who won the men’s D Cat with a time of 52mins flat and Maeve Galloway who steamed to victory in the women’s D cat by 90secs!
Next week we resume draft legal racing as we head to Austria and three laps of the Innsbrucking course – one of Zwift’s best criterium set-ups.
Don’t forget!
These tables are of Triathlon Ireland riders only but we rely on you to tell us this fact through club affiliation – we have a whole section on how the table is calculated and what to do if you don’t see your name on this page – just scroll down to the bottom of the article.
For riders who were WKG’d, UPG’d or upgraded by ZwiftPower – please note that these are automatic decisions made by ZwiftPower which Triathlon Ireland has no authority over. If you get in touch with us, we will do our best to explain what can sometimes be a confusing scenario but before you do that please read Zwift’s FAQs which has the technical explanations for all of these decisions and will likely do a better job then we can.

With six rounds left, the points difference among the top ten contenders is relatively small and there are a number of riders in the mix with a race or two in hand!

Although the top three in the league remain unchanged, it was a third win in a row on the streets of London for Pulse TC’s Clare Dillon! Now in seventh on the league table, Dillon has only completed four rounds so far meaning that she has three races in hand over the current top placed women in Cat B. This is going to be an exciting category to follow in the coming weeks!

2 | Oliver Harkin | Newry TC | 327 |
Finishing second last night means that Kevin Gilleece will hold the top spot in the men’s B Cat for another week, the race to watch is that for second and third. Just a point separated second on the league table Oliver Harkin and third placed Gary Condell last week. Although Gary has now moved into second place and overtaken Harkin, just one point still separates them!
It’s too early to call how this competitive category is going to pan out. With the points margins tight among the top fifteen riders, it’s all to play for!

With the second fastest C League time last night, Peter Blissett maintains his firm grip on the overall table and has a comfortable 51 point lead over second placed rider Pat Linehan with a race to spare. Linehan performed strongly last night, bringing in 47 points which could prove very valuable in the long run as Eric Lucking takes over in third – 26 points back but with a race in hand.

Another week, another change of leadership in the exciting competition at the top of the Women’s C league. After trailing by four points after Round 6, Cathy Cunningham from Omagh TC turned the tables on close rival Roisin Donohoe (Longford TC) by finishing second on the night and re-taking the top spot. The margin of just three points however means that as we head in to the final five races of the league, nothing is decided yet.
The battle for third place is almost as close with Limerick TC’s Edel Foster just six points clear of Aideen Keogh (Cork TC)

D LEAGUE INDIVIDUAL woMEN’S
Position | Name | Club | Points |
1 | Louise McGirl | 371 | |
2 | Maeve Galloway | Down TC | 308 |
3 | Joanne Murphy | 290 |
Louise McGirl maintains her lead in the Women’s D category as she finished 3rd overall last night. And while her lead, at 63 points is substantial, it hides a narrative that could become clearer next week as 2nd placed Maeve Galloway has raced one less round and was the fastest rider last night – one more round with both McGirl and Galloway racing and we should have quite a competition on our hands.
Third placed rider Joanne Murphy has earned promotion to the C Category, making it very likely that by next week we will have a new incumbent in third place – who that will be however is anyone’s guess with five riders within 30 points of one another in the league table.
D LEAGUE INDIVIDUAL MEN’S
Position | Name | Club | Points |
1 | Stephen Smyth | 3D TC | 352 |
2 | Kevin Hughes | TriLimitsTC | 341 |
2 | Keith Ryan | Mako TC | 320 |
Stephen Smyth maintains his lead at the top of the Men’s D League but only just – he is 11 points clear of Kevin Hughes and with Hughes winning last night’s race, and having raced one less round than Smyth, a reversal could be on the cards. Keith Ryan will also want a piece of that action – he moves in to third just 21 points off second but like Hughes, has a race in hand – as we said last week – the men’s D League is far from decided.

You can see all the race results and dig in to the in-depth data on the race’s ZwiftPower page.
In contrast to Triathlon Ireland’s autumn league, the 2021 Winter-Spring League does not have its own page on Zwift Power. Instead we are compiling the individual and club rankings ourselves – this is being done to ensure we can allocate points equally to men and women.
The same scoring criteria apply from our previous league: (with women and men assigned points separately).
1st : 61 points
2nd : 56 points
3rd : 51 points
4th-50th : 49-3 points
Every finisher from 51st onwards will receive 1 point.
The team competition pulls points each week from a club’s best five riders – unlike the Autumn League however once each week’s club score is finalised it can’t change of a rider subsequently changes teams.
The same will apply to riders who manage to earn an upgrade during the league – if you move up a category, you cannot take your already earned points with you as this would not be fair to your new rivals in your upgraded cat.
Why Am I Not There?
If you don’t see your name on either the ZwiftPower race results sheet or the Triathlon Ireland league standings here are some leads to follow up:
FILTERED RIDERS
ZwiftPower will ‘filter’ (aka exclude) any results from riders for a number of reasons, the most common being the absence of a heart rate monitor, a verified power meter or those who entered a power category below their ability/exceeded the W/kg for the power category they entered.
These are automated decisions based on power and made by ZwiftPower not Triathlon Ireland.
While Zwift racing is primarily about having fun, we have a responsibility to ensure that any race that carried our name is also fair so unfortunately if you were excluded or ‘filtered’ it is for a legitimate reason. Filtering is an automatic, data based decision by ZwiftPower designed to ensure an above board race.
We know it can be heart breaking when your HR monitor or Power Meter data fail you in a race but view it like having a mechanical that causes you to pull out of a real life race – it’s unfortunate but not grounds to have your result re-instated.
League Tables
If you are missing from the Triathlon Ireland League Table it is likely for one of two reasons
– You are not assigned to a Triathlon Ireland club on ZwiftPower
– You are not assigned to Triathlon Ireland on ZwiftPower
Only riders assigned to a Triathlon Ireland club or to Triathlon Ireland (as a club) will be included in the results sheets. If however you are a Triathlon Ireland 2021 member and have been left off for these reasons, drop us an email – we are happy to re-instate you. Please email roisin@triathlonireland.com.
Only riders assigned to a Triathlon Ireland club will be added to the Club Rankings tables.
