Lochlann Walsh Headshot

Lochlann Walsh – President

Sporting Background
Lochlann was a competitive schools and masters swimmer and water polo player before taking up triathlon in 2000.  As a member of Dublin club 3D Tri he was race director for Fingal Sprint Race for four years before being elected club chair in 2010.  Lochlann has competed at European and World AG Championships as well as competing in three ironman races.  He continues to compete in AG triathlon, veterans’ cycle road racing and open water swimming.

Professional Background
Lochlann is the Director of Sales & Marketing for CAE Parc Aviation, the world largest specialist aviation recruitment and engineering services specialist.  With operations in over 60 countries Lochlann’s team has a global remit in selling to aircraft manufacturers, aircraft leasing companies and airlines.  Previously Lochlann worked as Head of Corporate Sales in eircom and Customer Relations Manager in Aer Lingus.

Bernard Hanratty - Vice President

Sporting Background
Bernard has been involved in the sport of Triathlon since 2009. Bernard held the post of Chairman of Piranha from 2014 to 2016.   Through Piranha's hosting of Dublin City Triathlon Bernard has been intimately involved in race organisation and administration. Bernard's engagement with Triathlon Ireland commenced with an analysis of and recommendation with regard to the development of the National Series in 2013. Since then, the National Series has evolved considerably and the Category 1 Super Series has been created. Bernard was elected to the position of Vice President of Triathlon Ireland in April 2016.

Professional Background
Bernard is a 30 year veteran of Citigroup - working in London and Dublin in a variety of sales and relationship management roles.  Bernard now operates a technology start-up company and is a Change Management Consultant currently engaged as the Acting Director of the National College of Art and Design.

Karl Vekins Headshot

Karl Vekins - Ulster Representative

First elected - 2015

Sporting Background
Before taking up triathlon, Karl was a long distance paddler competing in many kayak races. In 1971 he won Division 2 of the Liffey Marathon - a two day race in the K1 class.
Karl has been involved in triathlon in Ireland since the early days (1987), he has competed in many triathlons and as a member of the Belpark Triathlon Club would travel all over Ireland to various races.  He was chairman of Belpark TC for many years when he lived in Dublin but since moving to Donegal is now an active member of the North West Triathlon Club.  He is a Technical Official with Triathlon Ireland and is Chairman of the Technical Committee and is the Ulster Branch race secretary.
Karl is also an ITU Technical Official and has been involved at events in Athlone, Limerick and Cagliari (Italy)

Professional Background
Karl is a tutor in the National Fisheries College, Greencastle, Co. Donegal and delivers Maritime Safety courses.  As a Marine Engineer he has worked all over the World in the oil drilling industry, sea bed surveying operations, bulk cargo vessels and seismographic vessels.  His first voyage to sea was bringing relief supplies to war torn Biafra in 1968.

Ian Haseldine Headshot

Ian Haseldine - munster representative

Sporting background
Ian was both a competitive Alpine skier and soccer player at collegial level. He competed in the inaugural Fastnet Triathlon in 2004, and since then has competed in many triathlons and Duathlons over the years including Ironman and full distance events, he also competed in the European AG Championships. Ian has been a TI Technical official since 2007 and for the past three years has been the Munster TO Secretary. He is currently on the TI Technical Committee and delivers courses for new TO’s. Ian has been the chairperson and race director for Schull Triathlon club for the past three years.

Ian has been the Principal of a National School in West Cork for the past 16 years, prior to that he was a school teacher and sports director of a school in America.

Tommie Loughran - ConnaCht Representative

Sporting Background
Originally from Meath  but now settled in Westport ,Tommie’s introduction to triathlon came about by accident when he entered North Tipp sprint in Nenagh as a challenge for his 40th birthday. Eight years later Tommie has completed two ironman distance races and several half ironman and Olympic/sprint distance races. Tommie would describe himself as not overly competitive (he checks the result sheets from the bottom up!) but he enjoys what the sport has to offer and the variety in training. Tommie has been a member of Westport Triathlon Club for six years and has been club chairman for three years and is also race director for Westport Triathlon for the last three years. In this time the club has enjoyed national and international success with Con Doherty and Aichlinn O’Reilly  who are both on the Irish squads and the club has some great under age athletes coming through. Club membership has doubled in four years and the club race which has national series status has nearly tripled in size in three years. Tommie is passionate about triathlon and developing the sport across the region.

Professional Background
Tommie’s background is in operations and various management roles over the years in a variety of large multinationals.  Tommie currently is employed  operations manager in a large printing company in Mayo supply into large pharmaceutical companies , previous experience in sales and operations planning management roles, supply chain and project management roles have made up the majority of Tommies last 20 years experience.

Tommie is currently completing a masters in Operations Management in DCU.

Darragh Rae Oct 2018

Darragh is a recent convert to the world of Triathlon and is excited about undertaking more events in the year ahead. 
Professional Background
Darragh has 15 years experience in marketing and specialises in integrating communications across digital and traditional media channels, with experience working across a variety of sectors including Food & Alcohol, Sport Sponsorship, FMCG, Tech, Public Sector, Entertainment and Financial Services. He has contributed articles to numerous media publications, judged industry awards and has spoken at conferences highlighting the importance of brand storytelling in a digital age. Darragh is a Director of Edelman UK & Ireland and leads the digital division in Edelman Ireland. This includes work for clients such as Mars, Irish Distillers, Coca-Cola, National Lottery, Danone, Visa, SSE Airtricity, The Westbury, Balfes, My Legacy, IOOA, ABFI, Pfizer, Roche, Abbvie, Xylem and IMRO. In his spare time he is PRO on the council of the Marketing Society. 

Aoife Nash

Aoife Nash - Board member

First elected - 2014

Sporting Backround
Aoife was a  keen horsewoman prior to taking up Triathlon and regularly competed at shows, showjumping both young and seasoned horses including the RDS Dublin Horse Show.  She swopped horses for a bike in and around 2009 and competed her first Triathlon in Valentia that year. It was also in around then that she joined Ennis Track Club and ran for them at both county, provincial and all Ireland level. Aoife competed for a few years in triathlon culminating in finishing third in Age Group in the National Series of 2011. Since then it she has dipped in and out of competition and continues to do just some training to “keep the pounds off”! Aoife found great pleasure in joining her club when starting triathlon in which she gained lifelong friends. She acted as Public Relations Officer, Training Officer and Chairperson for Ennis Triathlon Club and is almost always involved in the organisation of Ennis Tri Club’s duathlon and triathlon races.

Professional Background
Aoife was admitted onto the Roll of Solicitors in 2008 having achieved a Degree in Law (BCL) at UCD and later a Diploma in Sports Law.  Aoife is a practising solicitor in her native County Galway andspecialises in Civil Litigaton, Peronal Injury Litigation, Family Law and Sports Law.

Aoife sits on the Constitution Committee for ITU (International Triathlon Union) which is an advisory committee to the both the Executive Board of ITU and to Congress regarding all matters pertaining to the Consitution of ITU. 

Aoife is also a member of the Disciplinary Panel of the Olympic Federation of Ireland.

Conor MacGuinness

Conor Macguinness - FINANCE director

First elected - 2019

Sporting Background
Conor has been involved in the sport of triathlon since 2011 and was appointed to the position of Finance Director at Triathlon Ireland in May 2019. Conor has completed in triathlons from sprint distance to Ironman and is a member of Belpark Triathlon Club.  He also participates in various running and cycling events and has been an avid golfer for many years and previously played rugby.


Professional Background
Conor has academic qualifications in B.A. Accounting and Finance from Dublin City University and a Masters in Business Administration from UCD Smurfit Business School. Conor has a 20 year career in financial services and has worked in Ireland, Switzerland and Luxembourg during this time. Conor now works as Managing Director at DMS Governance, a leading global provider of risk, compliance and governance services to the investment management sector and is an approved as a Director on investment companies by the Central Bank of Ireland.
