2025 Year in Review: Aquathlon National Champs
National Aquathlon Championships Age Group Winners Celebrated
Athlone provided a stunning backdrop for the 2025 National Aquathlon Championships, as athletes from across Ireland gathered in the town centre for a thrilling day of racing. Hosted by Athlone Triathlon Club as part of the town’s RiverFest celebrations, the event marked the exciting return to multisport competition in the heart of Athlone.

 Elizabeth (Libby) Carr and Ross Killelea delivered standout performances to claim the women’s and men’s Aquathlon National titles respectively – but they weren’t the only winners on the day with Age Group Champions being crowned for stand-out performances in the Aquathlon.
LIBBY Carr Takes Aquathlon Title for 2025
The women’s aquathlon championship carried the festival atmosphere with Carr safely securing first place in impressive style, with a comfortable 2:52 lead over closest rival Naoise O’Donnell (Galway Tri Club). Another Galway member, Laura Daly, delivered an impressive performance with a finish time of 32:43.

															Ross Killalea Crowned Men’s National Aquathlon Champ
First out of the water, Ross Killelea with National Triathlon Centre’s Sean McMahon emerging just a second later. A fast 5km followed with the backdrop of the festival atmosphere with Killalea crossing the finish line in 26:37 – and McMahon just 35 seconds later securing second place. Cork Triathlon Club’s Feidhlim O’Dubhlaing came up from 4th position overtaking closest rival Naas TC’s Fergus O’Toole to secure third spot on the podium in 30:09.
The Men’s Top three were:

- Feidhlim O’Dubhlaing

Dozens of athletes were crowned Age Group National Champions, from 18–24 right up to 70+.
