New All Ability Triathlon in Waterford

South East All Ability Triathlon with Waterford Sports Active

A brand-new triathlon event designed to encourage individuals with intellectual (learning) disabilities to experience the sport will take place on Wednesday 20th May 2026 at the Kingfisher Club in Waterford. The inaugural Triathlon Ireland and Waterford Sports Partnership South East All Ability Triathlon aims to provide a welcoming and supportive introduction to multi sport for participants who may not have had the opportunity to try triathlon before.

The event, in collaboration with Waterford Sport Partnership who have funded the use of the venue’s pool and athletics track will also be supported through monthly training sessions leading up to the event, helping participants build confidence and skills before race day.

Entrants will get to experience a real triathlon environment, all the while participating at their own pace and receiving a finishers medal.

Triathlon Ireland Development Officer Jo Sweetman, who has been involved in organising the event, explained that inclusion is central to the initiative.

“We want to deliver events that have inclusion at all levels of the sport - all abilities, ages and experience levels. The focus of the South East All Abilities triathlon is on participation, enjoyment and ensuring every athlete feels supported.”
