22/04/2021: Covid-19 Return to Triathlon Update for ROI

Ahead of the return of junior triathlon training from 26th April 2021, Triathlon Ireland have updated the Return to Training Protocol for Clubs & Members in Republic of Ireland (ROI).

What will be possible from the 26th of April?
The below is a guide for what will be possible for triathlon training in ROI from Monday, 26th of April. For full guidelines, please download the Return to Training Protocol for Clubs & Members in ROI. Both Triathlon Ireland affiliated clubs and members should refer to this document for all training protocols.
Government Guidelines
From 26th April
Subject to public health advice at the time, outdoor sports facilities can reopen (for example: pitches, golf courses and tennis courts, other facilities as appropriate).
Activities should take place between a maximum of two households. Facilities including club houses and any indoor facilities (for example: changing rooms, showers, kitchens, meeting rooms), apart from essential toilet facilities must remain closed. There should not be any return to team sports or training activities.
Underage non-contact outdoor training in pods of 15 can resume, subject to public health advice at the time.
Matches and Events
Professional, elite sports, horse racing, greyhound racing and approved equestrian events only are permitted to continue behind closed doors.
No other matches or events are to take place.
Gyms, Leisure Centres and Swimming Pools
Gyms, leisure centres and swimming pools are closed.
Domestic Travel
People are required to stay at home except for travel for work, education or other essential purposes. From 12 April, you can travel within your own county or within 20km of your home if crossing county boundaries.
Triathlon Ireland Members’ Training Guidance (Non club sessions)
Triathlon Ireland members must adhere to all public health guidelines and travel restrictions for their area. This currently means that outdoor distanced sport for adults can begin to take place. Activities should be on a socially distanced basis and may take place between a maximum of two households within their county.

Protective measures:
- No indoor sessions permitted. Indoor facilities can only open for essential toilet facilities.
- Social distancing maintained at all times.
- Handwashing
- Face coverings where required
Triathlon Ireland Club Training Guidance
From 26th April:
Club Sessions
- Junior (under 18) TI club sessions can take place outdoors in pods of 15.
- Groups must include the coach and anyone else present to assist in the total number (eg. junior group of 14+ 1 coach).
- Multiple pods are permitted if space allows.
- No indoor sessions permitted. Indoor facilities can only open for essential toilet facilities.
- Adult TI club sessions cannot take place.
Changes to the Training Protocol
We will update our clubs and members as soon as there are amendments to training protocol, and update the document as needed. As always, please make sure you are referring to the most recent update.
