MacCombe Secures Bronze in Yokohama
Chloe MacCombe and her guide Catherine Sands produced a strong overall performance to secure a podium position in the Women’s PTVI category at the 2024 World Triathlon Para Series Yokohama. The duo were closely followed by Judith MacCombe and her guide Eimear Nicholls who, despite mechanical issues with their tandem, placed 4th, with only seven seconds between the Irish athletes and their guides.
In the rankings battle for the Paris Paralympic Triathlon, Chloe’s result sees her climb four places to 4th on the Women’s PTVI list. Meanwhile, Judith’s result in Yokohama sees her climb two places to enter the top 9. While the top 9 will secure spots for the country at the Paris Paralympics, competition between 6th and 10th is close, with less than 20 ranking points between the 4 positions.

Tom Williamson was also in action in Yokohama in the Men’s PTS5 category, finishing in 6th. A strong swim saw him out front early on, and while his abilities on the bike were strong enough to keep him in medal contention, the high quality field contained a number of strong runners. However, he stated post race that he was “incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to race at this level. I am also stoked to have been able to compete among the best and to have gained invaluable experience and lessons.”
Next Focus
Both Judith MacCombe and Tom Williamson will now reset their focus for the 2024 World Triathlon Para Cup Samarkand, May 18th. They will also be joined by Donnacha McCarthy and his guide Sean Husband who continue their Paralympic points campaign.
Chloe MacCombe will switch her focus to the 2024 World Triathlon Para Cup Vigo on the 1st of June.
